First off, the age range is totally off, there is no upper limit on who can have fun with this Karaoke machine. :) According to my husband (who is very musically talented, unlike moi) the sound is good for a home karaoke player. Much better quality than we would have expected and than on a couple of other home karaoke machines we've played around with. The little tv screen is handy, although the lyrics are very small when shown on it, but readable even with my old eyes. :) It can also be hooked up to a TV. One neat thing is that by activating the AVC (auto voice control) when using multiplex CDGs, the lead singer's voice can be heard when you need it to help you learn the song, but it disappears when you sing on the microphone.

Because the microphone and sound is better than on a typical tape recorder, my son has been using it to practice memorizing things he has to for school, like a weekly poem. After hearing a recording made on the karaoke player in that loud not so pretty voice used by lots of 1st grade boys in music class, my son decided to use his *good singing* during his holiday performance.

I gave the 4 for durability just because it is electronic equipment and more care has to be taken with it than with other *toys*.

Anyway, this is good family fun, my singing ...but I'm still better at this than I am at playing video games with my 6 yr old. It's also great to keep the kids occupied. :)

On the surface, this is a great idea. You put in a CD, the music plays and words come up to the songs in real time on a small black and white TV screen. The words are highlighted so you can sing along. You can also hook it up to your TV and have the words and music come through the TV.

But, there are only 4 songs per CD. To build up any kind of library, you have to buy lots of CD's. And the selection is not that good.

When you put in a CD, it takes the machine over a minute to recognize the CD and the format. So, flipping from CD to CD takes a while.

Because there are only 4 songs on a CD, and the time it takes to switch CD's, you end up singing one or two songs over and over again. You quickly get bored of the system.

This is a great machine. My daughter had been wanting a karaoke to use at college parties. I, of course, had to take it out and try it before giving it to her. It was so easy to use. The screen is fine if a small group is singing, or put it on the TV for larger parties. My high school son even got in on the fun laughing at me and his Dad. You can buy hundreds of CDG's and CDGM's at prosing.com (some for as low as $9.99 with 15 songs). There are other sites that sell as well which can be located at singingmachine.com. CDG's have only the music and backup singing, while CDGM's 2 versions of the same song (1 with music- backup and the other with music-backup-lead vocals so you can learn the song first). If taken care of, I'm sure that my daughter's future children will enjoy this, hopefully many years down the road.

I PURCHASED THIS MTV KARAOKE MACHINE FOR MY 7 YEAR OLD. I MUST SAY THAT NOT ONLY DID SHE LOVE IT BUT EVERYONE WHO CAME TO VISIT ON CHRISTMAS HAD TO TRY IT OUT! I WAS VERY IMPRESSED. EVEN THOUGH MOST PEOPLE SAY IT IS NOT A LEARNING ACTIVITY I WOULD HAVE TO DISAGREE BECAUSE I THINK IT HELPS THEIR READING ABILITY. WITH SOME OF THE FAST SONGS MY DAUGHTER HAD TO READ FAST AND PRONOUNCE WORDS THAT WERE UNFAMILIAR. THEREFORE I THINK IT IS A GOOD LEARNING TOOL FOR READING. I READ ALOT OF REVIEWS ON ALL TYPES OF KARAOKE MACHINES AND THIS ONE HAD THE BEST REVIEWS AND I MUST ADMIT THE REVIEWS DID NOT LET ME DOWN SO FOR ANYONE OUT THERE CONTEMPLATING I SAY GO FOR IT!!!! IT'S FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY!! I ESPESIALLY LUV THE TV SCREEN. YOU DON'T HAVE TO TRY TO HOOK UP ALL KINDS OF PLUGS TO ANOTHER TV...YOU CAN ALSO TAKE IT ANYWHERE AND HAVE A GREAT TIME....

We bought this for the kids for Christmas, but fibbed to them and said that we just rented it for a week for my daughter's 10th birthday sleepover. We also bought and borrowed a lot of CDGs, so we had a good variety of music. Well, this thing was the hit of the party. Fourteen 10-13-year-old girls and one 40-year-old mom had a blast. The best part of the sleepover (for me) was when I got up to sing and they all stopped dead in their tracks and just stared at me, singing and swaying in my flannel nightgown.

The karaoke machine was on from the moment the girls arrived (6 p.m. Saturday) until about 2 a.m., when I threatened them with no breakfast if they didn't turn it off. It was back on at 8 a.m. Sunday until the last one left at around 4 p.m. Then my 2 daughters and I used it on and off for the next week until it was time to pack it up and return it to the rental store. (I hated putting it away to hide it for Christmas, but I had to. I think I was the last one playing with it, honestly. I love that thing!)

My girls both take voice lessons and sing in several choruses, and throughout the week we had the machine out, they used it periodically to practice their music. It came in very handy, and that's why I give it such a high rating on the educational scale. For our family, music is a very important part of the girls' education.

The only thing negative I can say about this machine is that it skips when little girls are pretending they're horses and running through the room. Other than that, it performed flawlessly for us, and we had a real blast with it. I can't wait till Christmas morning!

When I first came down on christmas mornig I was releaved to see the karaoke system. I was suprised that it only took me about five minutes to get it out of the box and start singing.It came with a sample cd with three songs(you have to go buy the other cds).It comes with a tv screen that puts the words up to the song.you can also play regular cds on it.It is so easy to use that all I have to do is plug it in and press play and start singing.you also can record your singing on to a tape.It also has buttons that can make your voice eco.You can plug it into the tv and have the words come up, but i think you can see all the words fine on the
MTV screen.I LOVE IT SO MUCH ALL AGES WILL LOVE IT.

This machine is a great machine. I think this is one of the best kinds that I could get, because it has a screen to play the lyrics. Also this toy is very fun to do by yourself or with a friend and it is great for parties. This Karaoke machine is very durable.I think this is a lot of fun for all ages. This is a great karaoke machine to buy as a gift, and to have at parties. I would give it the best ratings!!!!

I thought this karaoke machine was great because it is SO much fun to dance to it and sing and look at the lyrics when u sing, i would rate it a 5 star. It is very good for kids all ages, even adults! I enjoyed this toy. It is a great influence on kids that want to sing at such a young age, so they can practice their vocal voices. Very good toy!!!

Last night at the New Year's Eve party, adults and kids alike were lined up to "sing" with the karaoke machine. When we left, guests were disappointed we were taking the machine too! It's easy to hook up to a big screen TV, but also great as a stand alone (that's how I practice). Not too many buttons and knobs to fiddle with (that's good and bad...can't improve some people's singing no matter what you do!), and it's durable enough that I'm not worried that my 5 1/2yr old son would break it. The mike that comes with it is good, and I ordered a second one at the same time...having 2 mikes is a good idea (no one knows who's voice that really is!) and two singers usually sound better than one! Some friends and I do karaoke once a month or so out in public, so hopefully this will help me get to know more songs and feel more comfortable in front of the mike. I have no doubt that it WON'T help with my singing!!

I bought this machine about 2 years ago and it's still working great. I just discovered that this machine can also be used as a tv and recieve tv channels. I connected my VCR to the audio inputs on the back and can also watch movies. Or connect my camcorder to the VCR, put a blank tape in, and I can record from my camcorder right to the tape. The only cons about this machine is the size is a little bulky if you want to take it places, no remote, and the tv isn't in color. I was very close to buying a small tv, but found out what all this karaoke system can do. Don't agree with the reccomended ages because it's great for anyone. Obviously I'm not in between the reccomended ages.
