5.0 out of 5 stars The Magic Of Burl Ives..., February 28, 2011

This review is from: The Singing Wayfarer (Audio CD)
Nobody could sing a folk ballad like Burl Ives, stylist, storyteller, most of all sincerity. Here Ives is featured on this Primo collection consisting of two disc with forty songs. The audio is excellent and the songs are his original recordings (probably decca) from the forties and fifties. Some favorites featured are "Blue Tail Fly", "Molly Malone", "Down In The Valley", "Cowboy's Lament", "Roger Young", "Devilish Mary", "Goober Peas", "Foggy, Foggy, Dew", "Rock Candy Mountain", and Ives' personal favorite, "I Know An Old Lady (Who Swallowed A Fly)"...for the most part it's just Burl and his guitar, "On Top Of Old Smokey" is live but it's good. The last six tracks are live performances from the Royal Festival Hall in London. This import from The Czech Republic is a quality set, and showcases one of the greatest singers of our time, nobody sounded like Burl Ives, the singing wayfarer.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Singing Wayfarer, July 28, 2011

I had forgotten that Burl Ives was also an exemplary Musicologist and the Master Minstrel of American Folk Music! The catalogue of songs are expertly performed with perfect timing, pitch, and grace. I believe that I was originally introduced to this in 1961 by an honored teacher. Not only did this CD bring back fond memories, I was able to enjoy some outstanding songs!
