By Joshua D. Beachy on September 21, 2008
Format: Audio CD
It's a shame that this album will probably never be heard by a good number of people, as it would easily become a favorite with many people, if only they would hear it, especially the indie crowd.
Joshua is certainly not a mainstream band, but for people who have been listening to bands like Built to Spill for years this sound will be accessible. In fact, when I first heard this album, the two things it brought to mind were Built to Spill's album Ancient Melodies of the Future and The Get Up Kids's album On a Wire, which may or may not give you an idea as to how far this branches out. It is somewhat poppy, but it maintains a indie-grunge feel throughout.
Standout tracks include "What Loves Requires," "Feeling Catastrophe," "Hey Imagination," and "Bruise Your Vanity."

I agree with the previous commenter: it's a shame that this album (and band) didn't achieve more widespread success. Eight years later and Singing To Your Subconscious is still one of my favorite albums. It's got beautiful music, great vocals, and interesting, well-written lyrics -- everything you could want in an album. I think that any fan of Snow Patrol or This Day And Age would also love Singing To Your Subconscious.
