Previously, struggling manually to get these stockings on was painful for me and hard work for her. Thank you for supplying a simple mechanism for doing what was a burden for either of us. Also, it frees her from having to come to the house every time I need to dress and makes me feel secure to know that, when I have to travel, I can dress myself with nobody else there to aid me.
I was skeptical at first as we have tried other sock helpers without success, however, we were really surprised at how well this worked!
My father is now fully capable of putting on his compression stockings without any help.
This is not made for people with no range of motion. The helper does require the user to be seated and be capable of reaching somewhat below the knee, therefore, this may not be the best option for some. Also, if the user is very tall (my father is 6') I can see how this may hinder the ability of the sock aid as its handles would appear lower on the leg. However, if the patient has limited range of motion and can reach the upper calf area (where it appears on my 6" tall father), they will find this product to function as advertised and should greatly assist them in achieving this daily task.
Products like this are infrequent and few. The Single Ezy Sock Helper is an excellent, simple product (ie not complicated or difficult to figure out how to use) which can help your loved one enhance their quality of life.
I gave it five stars for: ease of use, value, sturdy construction, and because it made my father smile.
I hope you found this review helpful in your search.
Background: I'm 10+ years in a wheelchair because of a degenerative joint disorder and am neurologically compromised (the latter being something new and the cause for needing some way to get the flippin' socks on so I can get to work on time!)
The instructions that come with the Ezy Sock Helper state "Designed to help the caregiver..." Not information you find in the online descriptions anywhere! If you try to follow the instructions AND you are doing it yourself (with limited mobility)- it is awkward to impossible with regular socks. If you are using compression socks, no-way!
HOWEVER - my wife was able to load the compression socks and deposit them on my feet and up the legs with one easy motion.
After some fiddling, I found the angle I needed to use for foot insertion and I added some straps to make the handles longer so I could accomplish the "pull up" part of the program.
A note about the enclosed instructions and compression socks: "drape stockings over the column" and "The toes of the sock should be approximately 1" below the top of the column" maybe works for regular socks!
For HEAVY compression socks the process of loading the Sock Helper is to pull the sock completely inside-out over the column until the toe seam is flat across the mouth. If you do this, when you put your foot in the column and push - everything is in the right place (no tugging or straining to get things properly seated).
When I get a little more practiced, I'll do a video... because this is a sturdy piece of kit and the only one I'm not sending back.Read more ›
