Great Bible!, February 10, 2010
This review is from: NIV Single Column Text Burgundy French Morocco NI173 (Leather Bound)
This is a finely crafted Bible. I chose this one as an upscale single-column leather...but without going all out for the more expensive goatskin version. This seemed like a happy medium between the goatskin and the bonded leather. I have not been disappointed.
I love the Bible formatted into a single-column...much easier on the eyes. Even if you consider the text in this Bible small (which I don't), it is much easier to read due to the single column format.
The single-column format makes this like a regular book, and feels like you are reading much faster than with the standard two-column. Two-columns are used because they are cheaper to produce (less paper, etc.)
The dark maroon leather cover was a little stiff out of the package, but seems to be softening with more and more use.
It would have been nice to add a few maps, an index, etc, but they were not promised so I wasn't expecting them.
I will never use a two-column again!

A Book Lovers Bible, October 11, 2007
This review is from: NIV Single Column Text Burgundy French Morocco NI173 (Leather Bound)
As a lifelong reader and lover of books, I have always thought the Bible should be printed in a single column just like the books I grew up reading. This single column Bible provides just that which to me makes it more readable. In the construction of the French Morroco leather edition that I purchased, it is obvious why Cambridge is one of the oldest and best Bible publishers still in existence. The binding, sewing and pages all spell quality and care in construction. The print is large enough to be very easy to read, even with these bifocal eyes of mine.
This Bible is not a study Bible but only the Bible which purists may appreciate. The only thing I would change would be its thickness but to achieve that the font would need to be smaller. I would choose the larger font over a thinner Bible.
This leather edition looks and feels like it will serve me well for many years and make reading the scriptures all the more a joy.

1st Impressions, June 2, 2011
This review is from: NIV Single Column Text Burgundy French Morocco NI173 (Leather Bound)
WOW! Upon opening the box, the smell hit me and I realized that this was going to be fun! The cover is a bit stiff and the inside cover is paper, but the quality appears excellent. This bible smells great. As this is my first 'real' leather bible, I am amazed at the craftsmanship in this bible. Did I say how awesome this bible smells and feels?
Now, to the nuts and bolts of the matter. When I saw and ordered this bible, my anticipation was seeing how the single-column format reads! The font even allows for me to set my glasses down - this format is so readable. The poetry and prophecies seem much more cohesive and have a good flow in this format. I like how easily I read the words in the 'tough' reading sections - like numbers. Reading Song of Songs and 1Cor 13 is smooth. One minor issue - I wish the spine margins were a little wider so the words wouldn't have the slight curve when reading the left pages - that may work itself out over time. I will follow-up after some use of this bible.
Did I tell you about great scent and feel of this bible?
