5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, February 2, 2012

This review is from: Single Edged Blades: 7 Stories for a Broken and Angry Heart (Kindle Edition)
A fantastic book of short stories, a great collection that leaves the reader wanting to know more. I'm not currently experiencing heartache or a break-up, but a great book regardless of that fact. This is the second book of Deanna Roy's that I've read, look forward to reading more in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, January 17, 2012
This review is from: Single Edged Blades: 7 Stories for a Broken and Angry Heart (Kindle Edition)
I'm not sure exactly why I chose to read this book. I'm not in a bad relationship, my only bad breakup happened over 20 years ago. But something about this collection drew me in. The characters are so real. I understood what they were going through and felt myself right there in the middle of their stories. For me, the hallmark of a great book is that it leaves me wanting more. And with each of these stories I wanted more. Ms. Roy is a fantastic writer!

5.0 out of 5 stars Unforgettable, January 17, 2012

This review is from: Single Edged Blades: 7 Stories for a Broken and Angry Heart (Kindle Edition)
The characters in these stories draw you in, then keep you emotionally off balance--torn between sympathizing with their passionate embracing of life and love, and wanting to shake some sense into their heads as they careen, almost naively at times, toward total self-destruction.

This is gritty material artfully realized. From the young woman having difficulty removing her former lover's Nuvaring, to the woman impelled to cut herself, they react to love's ardent promises and its bitter disappointments. These stories stay with you.
