I am such a fan of May Sarton, warts and all. ;-)

I have mainly read her journals, but wanted to read a couple of her novels. I first read As We Are Now, and thought it outstanding. Then I read Mrs. Stevens Hears the Mermaids Singing, and pretty much enjoyed it....a bit "talky" but okay. I know the story behind it, and it does serve a purpose. Thirdly, I just finished The Single Hound, and was a bit surprised, even tho' I knew it way May's first novel. For such a short novel, it was slightly tedious in parts, and compared to writing today, of course it was very antiquated. But all in all, after finishing it, I do have to say I enjoyed it, if for nothing else, a taste of a novel written back before my mother was born. A glimpse of what people were reading almost 100 years ago. And compared to The Millineum Series that I just finished, wow ~ we've sure come a long way. I do intend to read a couple of May's other books, as each one helps me understand her a little more. Oh, and I do have to mention, I paid a couple of dollars for the book, and it's autographed by May on the cover page. I suppose I can't prove it's her actual autograph, but I can compare it to signatures of hers I've seen other places, and it sure looks like hers. Plus, it's written in an odd color of ink and you can tell it's written with a fountain pen, the way it bled through the page in several places. So I choose to think it's her signature, and I think it's cool, and I got a good deal again on Amazon.
