Torn Between Lovers,

This review is from: Single Mama's Got More Drama (Paperback)
Vanessa Cain's life is in turmoil. Her fiancé was found murdered in a compromising position. Her reputation has been destroyed by the media. The man she truly loves walked out on her. Her fiancé's ex-wife is threatening to kick her out of her South Beach condo and someone is following her.
Vanessa's experienced one disastrous relationship after another. Her baby's father had an addiction she was unaware of until further in the relationship and when she told him she was pregnant, he wanted nothing to do with her or their baby. Her fiancé neglected to tell her he was still married and that he was cheating on her with someone else. However, the drama doesn't end there. A marriage proposal from an ex-boyfriend could end her financial problems and offer her and her daughter security, or she could follow her heart and choose the man that holds the key to it. SINGLE MAMA'S GOT MORE DRAMA is drama, suspense, and romance with a hidden message. I was held captive from the beginning to the end. The characters are vivid and the story flowed never missing a beat. I look forward to reading more of Perrin's books. Reviewed by Sharon Lewis of The RAWSISTAZ(tm) Reviewers

amusing tale,
This review is from: Single Mama's Got More Drama (Paperback)
In Miami Vanessa Cain remains in shell shock from the betrayal and murder of her cheating fiancé, retired Atlanta Braves star Eli Johnson see SINGLE MAMA DRAMA). However, she tries to move past the scandal, but Eli's vengeful widow Tassie still battles her over who owns the condo Vanessa and her daughter Rayna shared with him.
Others are also making life miserable for Vanessa starting with her boss, Debbie, who is ecstatic over an affair she is having. Hollywood wants to make a TV movie of Eli's story with her portrayed as an idiot. Rayna's father Byron McLean suddenly wants joint custody after having nothing to do with their kid. Finally her pre-Eli boyfriend Lewis Carter proposes marriage. Worse she remains attracted to motivational speaker Chaz Anderson, who seems somewhat interested, but she fears not enough Vanessa obviously suffers from the Mark of Cain as she got more drama than a soap opera queen. The story line in some ways feels more like a series of vignettes as the heroine goes from one disaster to another with so many that are not even in her lane the reader loses empathy for Vanessa. Still this is an amusing tale as the audience will understand how the lead protagonist feels as her life seems more like a pin ball game with tilt being the only respite. Harriet Klausner

Ready for Single Mama #3,

This review is from: Single Mama's Got More Drama (Paperback)
I really love this series. My girl Vanessa had more drama than the law doth allow, and seemed a little clueless (okay a lot). But I love the way Kayla Perrin writes, and how this keeps you on the edge of your seat. Great read and I look forward to the next installment!

I thought this would conclude this series but yet it left us with no conclusion and from the time that has passed there won't be any closure so don't waste the time buying this book!

Single Mama Needs a Little Help,
This review is from: Single Mama's Got More Drama (Paperback)
After reading Single Mama Drama I was hoping to find that the sequel be a bit more entertaining or at least somewhat more fulfilling than it actually is. Maybe it is not the issue of it not being fulfilling, because it does pick up where the first book left off and gives some closure to the events of Single Mama Drama, but the only word I can use to describe the way I felt as I read Single Mama's Got More Drama was "unnecessary". I still haven't finished the book and I'm not sure I'm going to. I'm glad I checked it out from the library instead of buying it or even using one of my credits at one of the book-swapping club websites I'm a member of because I really don't feel the book was even worth that much.
Where Single Mama Drama left off with Vanessa fighting what seems to be an uphill battle with Tassie Johnson, the widow of Eli Johnson, Vanessa's so-called fiance, Single Mama's Got More Drama picks up. Vanessa wins the battle, though she does it with the help of Lewis, her ex who wants to both make amends and make her his wife. Why the change of heart in Lewis? Who knows? In the previous book he proposes to Vanessa and she doesn't accept his proposal, but she doesn't turn him down either, which leads him to believe that she wants to give him another chance, when really she wants to use him to fight Tassie Johnson and keep her condo. We later find out that Lewis is not really on the up and up and Vanessa gets more trouble than she bargained for. Then Byron, Vanessa's ex and father of her child, appears out of nowhere making demands to see their daughter. All of this is going on while Vanessa is still pining over Chaz, the seemingly perfect motivational speaker whom she lied to for no good reason and thereby betraying his trust. My problem with the book: It's too long. The book itself isn't long, but considering all the parts I either skimmed or skipped and the fact that I just glanced at the last couple of pages and figured out the very predictable ending, the book is way too long. There's several parts of the story which I felt were unnecessary and added absolutely nothing to anything, like Nikki, Vanessa's overbearing, yet loving sister and the drama that came along with her. Actually, I felt the entire book was unnecessary and that maybe Single Mama Drama should've been a few pages longer so that there wouldn't have been a sequel. Then it also bugs me to see seemingly intelligent women be so stupid when it comes to men. I think that's just a personal pet peeve of mine, but why never make it clear whether or not you really want to be engaged to someone when you don't? The whole issue with the condo and using any means necessary to keep it went over my head. I personally don't believe I would want to keep it if the man I loved had completely turned my life upside down and made me miserable even months after his death. It'll upset Rayna, Vanessa's daughter? She's two years old, she won't know the difference...possibly she'll notice, but at such a young age she'll grow out of it. Find a place for you and her that you can actually afford and make new, more pleasant memories. Why fight with the estranged widow who considers you a home-wrecker and has called you every name under the sun except beautiful over a man that lied to you both when you could do something more productive with your time, like move on with your life? I know your name was on the lease, but let go of Eli and let go of the condo that is out of your budget. It was your dream home that was supposed to go along with your dream life, but the dream life turned into a nightmare. Let it go. Last, but not least, why didn't she just tell Chaz that Rayna's father was a deadbeat instead of lying and making Chaz believe that Eli was her father? Would the truth have been so devastating that Chaz wouldn't have been able to handle it? I guess so. Forgive me for rambling, but that's the end of my rant. I'm actually a fan of Kayla Perrin's, but I just feel like she fell short with this one. So, I'll be happily taking this one back to the library and not recommending it to anyone. Tara Meshale

Drama Turned Up A Notch,
By
This review is from: Single Mama's Got More Drama (Paperback)
This installment finds Vanessa where her soap opera of a life left us hanging in Single Mama Drama. Eli's ex but legal widow Tassie tries to force Vanessa and her small daughter out of their home by demanding Vanessa buy her out in order to stay. She only imposes this impractical request because she feels it would be an impossible feat. To Tassie's surprise, this single mother comes up with the means to pay her. Playing dirty as always, Tassie never actually planned to let Vanessa keep the condo and quickly rejects her offer announcing that she would like to live there instead. In the next breath Vanessa resolves to fight just as dirty and quickly calls in favors to try to find the skeletons in Tassie's closet.
Still crushed that Chaz Anderson broke off their budding romance, Vanessa is too timid and embarrassed to call or go after him. Instead, she convinces herself that he must be over her. We all know how fast Vanessa moves on to the next man so when her ex-boyfriend Lewis proposes to her completely out of the blue, she doesn't say no. They originally broke up partly because he refused to marry her, so this is quite a huge shock. Lewis is extremely wealthy and if she agrees to marry him, he promises to help her in any way possible regarding her condo. Vanessa is slightly torn, marry someone she isn't in love with so her financial issues can disappear or finally go after the man she truly loves, Chaz. Once again I find myself frustrated with Vanessa and her poor choices. While she elects to lead Lewis on as he attempts to solve her current problems with his money and resources, an abundance of other drama transpires. Vanessa discovers she is being followed, the affair her boss is having is exposed, rumors fly of Chaz's new love affair, and worst of all Rayna's father Byron is demanding to see his daughter with dramatic antics and confusing motives. This highly entertaining sequel is drama packed with surprising twists, and unexpected deceit. The female fixtures in this novel are a piece of work, each uniquely bring some sort of drama to the table with their behavior. It seems the essential element of common sense is sometimes lacking with these women. Sadly, Vanessa is the only one that did not seem to learn from her mistakes or mature. This series is obviously unfinished so I would love to finally see some major growth in Vanessa's character. Although it is never discussed, she seems to have a bad case of low self esteem. She strikes me as the type who needs a man to feel adequate and complete and is not comfortable by herself. In spite of the fact that Vanessa is in love with the notion of being in love, I would have like to see her single for once while she works on herself. If she did, surely there would not be as much drama in her life.

I had to stop and put the book down... The book was just getting on my last nerves. How can someone that act so smart be so dumb. I just couldnt take Vanessa's stupidity any longer. Why lie when she done nothing wrong... That was the last straw for me. Sorry the book may be good but I couldnt finish it.

I love Kayla Perrin's books and this book was very good. However, I was disappointed with the ending. I guess there will be another book added to this series because Single Mama's Got More Drama leaves you hanging at the end. I definitely recommend it and can't wait for the next book.
