Book Description

November 14, 2005
This recipe book was developed and designed by a man for men. Let me explain, I was working away from home, 1100 miles away and had to cook for myself. I realized that I didn't want to spend hours in the kitchen cooking and having to wash all the cooking pots and utensils that went along with making a meal. The problem was that I had no recipes that were for single people and absolutely none for single men. I asked my wife to send me all the recipes she had or could find that accomplished two goals. 1. I wanted recipes that I would like and that could be made in a single container. 2. The recipe could not take over one hour to make. My wife sent me all the recipes she could find or that our relatives had. I also asked friends at work for recipes. After I received them I realized that I was not alone and that there were thousands of single men who were also in the same boat as I, hence the idea to make a recipe book for men. This book is unique in that it was made for men by a man. You will see that the recipe is on the left side and that a complete shopping list for the recipe is on the right. Men, I thought, would need help buying the items to make the recipes. You will also see that there are recipes covering Chicken, Beef, Pork and Ham, Soups, Salads and my favorite section, Things That Go With Beer! You choose the beer. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little cookbook, December 27, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: A Single Man's Guide to Easy Meals (Paperback)
I bought this book for my 25 year old son. It is a great little cookbook. On the left page is a recipe, and on the right page is the grocery list of items needed for that recipe. Short and simple. It's a good way for a beginner cook (male OR female) to jump in to actually putting together recipes that are quick and good to eat. If you are looking for easy and quick super healthy recipes, this may not be the book for you. Some of the ingredients are foods such as canned soups. These often are high in sodium, etc. But for a beginner cook, who really has little experience in throwing recipes together....this is a good one to start with.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not a great guide...., March 11, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: A Single Man's Guide to Easy Meals (Paperback)
I purchased this book for my husband who nicely decided to help me by taking over cooking duties once a week. My cookbooks and Food & Wine magazines were not something that would be helpful for a beginner and not anything remotely like what he would want to make. Looking at the book breifly on-line I thought it would be a nice book, the section about 'Food that goes with beer' was a selling point. However, using the cookbook has proven quite difficult for my husband and sometimes myself! The grocery lists on the side are sometimes incomplete and there are instructions in the ingrediant list for how they should be prepared prior to the recipe instructions which my husband finds confusing. Even I have to read the receipe through about three times to make sure that I understand the exicution of a meal. It is clear to me that the author did not take the time to write these instructions to a very basic and clear level to men who don't normally cook. To me the receipes read like my grandmothers, written for a specific person the way they like to read how to cook a particular meal which is fine if you know that in advance.

Also, since my husband and I watch what we eat and our salt intake this is really not a good book. I can normally adapt ingrediants to make a meal more healthful but this one proves difficult. I recommend that Man, A Can, and A Plan books, they are pretty healthful, provide easy instructions and caloric/sodium information.
