5.0 out of 5 stars Why I loved it, why you should read it
I ordered Single Mom Seeking after finding myself on [...] When it arrived in the mail, I had no idea how much I would love Rachel's story and laughed out loud at many of the embarrassing occasions she shared in great detail. Situations she found herself in which I am all too familiar with as a single mom of two. You will feel that Rachel is one of your girlfriends...

I am a single mom about to re-enter the dating world. I bought this book hoping for some great insight into what I had in store, maybe some practical advice and tips for single parent dating. Instead what I got was a collection of thoughts from an obvious love addict (yes, they do exist) who makes very bad choices in men and seems to always be looking for how to get laid. No disrespect to Rachel Sarah, she seems like a nice person and a great mom, but I found her book useless and very uninspiring. It made single moms look desperate, needy and easy. In fact, I'm surprised there were so many glowing reviews about this book!

Save your money, do not buy this book. Read her blog, rent her book (for free) from the library, maybe borrow a friend's copy if you must have it, but I would not advise buying this book. It will offer you no insight whatsoever that you can use when it comes to dating. The only positive thing I will say about this book is that it did make me laugh. There are some parts where she discusses her daughter where I totally understood where she was coming from. However overall, this fell far short of expectations.

You will feel that Rachel is one of your girlfriends phoning you about her latest exploits, which were hysterical. I happily read along as she takes her little one from east coast to west coast in search of roots, and cheered her on as she began to find herself. I would recommend this book to any single mom but also to mothers in general who will also love her journey and understand and relate to this incredibly brave woman.

5.0 out of 5 stars Reality of being a single mom...finally presented well!!!, May 6, 2007
This review is from: Single Mom Seeking: Playdates, Blind Dates, and Other Dispatches from the Dating World (Paperback)
Thank you Rachel for writing this fabulous book...I can totally relate to your story and I loved reading it. It is bringing more courage to the single mom population which is important, there are a lot of women who feel 'guilty' about taking care of themselves...when in reality, taking care of ourselves is the most effective way to make sure our children learn that it is important to take care of themselves too, it really does keep everyone more stable and secure. FABULOUS BOOK BY A FABULOUS WOMAN!!! -Kristin

5.0 out of 5 stars She gets it!, July 11, 2011
This review is from: Single Mom Seeking: Playdates, Blind Dates, and Other Dispatches from the Dating World (Paperback)
Thank you Rachel Sarah for putting into words what so many of us have felt. I have been a single mother since my daughter took her first breath and that was 2 1/2 years ago. While reading this book I found myself nodding my head in agreement and giving those "I've been there" eyebrow raises. It was even comical at one point how similar it was when I read her daughter's father called her his "Shelter from the storm". My daughter's father used to sing and play that Bob Dylan song for me stating the same thing. I guess women who like to save and fix people like to hear that, and those who need fixing know that. This book was a breath of fresh air!

Within days of getting and reading this book, I got asked on a date by one dad and had my first smooches with another. Thank you Rachel! I think through reading it, I actually just started remembering and projecting the confident sexy woman I had forgotten. I recommend this read for all single moms needing to remember the woman within and looking for love and/ or a little loving. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing! Full of love & gratitude!!, May 21, 2011

I don't remember now how I stumbled upon your book, but I am so grateful I did. I think I read it in two days, leaving myself sleep deprived for work, but I just couldn't put it down. Your honesty about wanting someone to love you and your daughter was so raw.

Feeling torn between overflowing gratitude and embarrassment for your father's assistance is another one I struggle with (my daughter and I still live at home with my parents). Sometimes I am ashamed to say out loud that I want someone to share this life with. It is so infinitely lonely to be a single mom sometimes. My daughter's biological father was never in her life and died when she was three months old.

I'm planning on making a huge move next year and I had a lot of fear of making this move but after reading your book, it reinforced in me that I absolutely can do this, if I put my heart to it. That the God of my understanding will put people in my life right when I need them and last week, by way of your book, that was you. I am still wondering if I'll ever be able to go to a yoga class again, or have a moment of peace to myself, but I feel that incredibly normal. I just had to write to you and thank you for your wonderful words.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'd recommend this book to men, February 18, 2007
This review is from: Single Mom Seeking: Playdates, Blind Dates, and Other Dispatches from the Dating World (Paperback)
I used to date a single mom. I got so exasperated that she used her toddler as an excuse for everything, I gave up. I felt too much was being demanded of me too soon in the relationship. I read Rachel Sarah's book to get a better understanding. I was entertained while I learned about how hormones affect mood, self-esteem, sexual desire, sleep etc. while the single mom is struggling with her impossible juggling act. It made me laugh. It made me want to cut my old flame some slack. I think I'll give that her a call ...

5.0 out of 5 stars A different type of parenting memoir, January 3, 2007
This review is from: Single Mom Seeking: Playdates, Blind Dates, and Other Dispatches from the Dating World (Paperback)
Rachel Sarah's tale of balancing motherhood, work, and being single is hard to put down. Definitely different from most of the current spate of parenting tales, by the end of Single Mom Seeking, you'll feel like you know Sarah and her daughter, and you'll find yourself rooting for them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love It!, December 22, 2006
This review is from: Single Mom Seeking: Playdates, Blind Dates, and Other Dispatches from the Dating World (Paperback)
While searching out books befitting my single status, I came across Single Mom Seeking. While the author, Rachel Sarah, is younger than me and only has one child, a baby at that, it was very entertaining, racy, and had some great advice as well.

From the back cover:

"Rachel Sarah offers a sexy, edgy, honest exposé of single parenthood."
-- Susan Shapiro, author of "Lighting Up" and
"Five Men Who Broke My Heart"

When she hit thirty, single mom and journalist Rachel Sarah realized that she had been in domestic overdrive too long. But trying to get over her ex had all shut out the possibility of dating and hot sex again.

When her daughter stopped nursing, however, a switch was flipped. Her libido was back. And so was her need to find a man. But motherhood had changed her. Where once she had been a free-spirited adventuress, now she was first and foremost a mom-dedicated completely to her daughter's well-being.

Single Mom Seeking is about Rachel's ongoing search for The One as she remains a dedicated and involved mom. It's a spunky, sexy, and moving chronicle of the humor, pitfalls, and rewards of balancing the complexities of parenting and dating -- single-mom style.

I highly recommend the book to all who are parents, single, and seeking.
