Excellent Treatise on Laterally Loaded Piles, September 16, 2003
This review is from: Single Piles and Pile Groups Under Lateral Loading (Hardcover)
Professor Lymon Reese (Univ. Texas) and Professor Willaim Van Impe of Ghent University have co-authored an excellent comprehensive treatise on laterally-loaded piles. Compared with other expensive books in geotechnical engineering, this 463-page book is an excellent value at $49.50.
Chapter 1, Techniques for Design
Chapter 2, Derivation of Equations and Methods of Solution
Chapter 3, Models fo rResponse of Soil and Weak Rock
Chapter 4, Structural Characteristics of Piles
Chapter 5, Analysis of Groups of Piles Subjected to Inclined and Eccentric Loading
Chapter 6, Analysis of Sigle Piles and Groups of Piles Subjected to Active and Passive Loading
Chapter 7, Case Studies
Chapter 8, Testing of Full-Sized Piles
Chapter 9, Implementation of Factors of Safety
Chapter 10, Suggestiosn for Design
Appendix A to J
My soft-bound copy came with a CD-ROM in the back jacket that included a student version of L-Pile and GROUP software. The bibliography is 14 pages long, and it thoroughly covers all of the relevant geotechnical literature. The book is nicely bound with Smyth-sewn signatures on good quality paper. The text is black & white (no color) with many line drawings and charts, but few photographs.
This is a career-capping book for Dr. Lymon Reese who has taught geotechnical engineering at the University of Texas for nearly half a century. This is the best current reference for laterally-loaded piles, and is therefore highly recommended to consulting geotechnical engineers and engineering geologists.
