4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Christmas Movie
This film was originally shown on the Hallmark channel in 2004 and I know it is being repeated this year. It's a sappy charmer but the best Christmas movies tend to be sappy charmers anyway and this one does a very good job. 3.0 out of 5 stars Cheesy yet sweet
I get in these moods where I need to watch Christmas movies. Not a big fan of Miracle on 34th Street, I wanted to find something a little different. This was a cutesy, feel good movie. Wasn't my favorite, but I've seen worse. Crystal Bernard is funny, yet Steve Guttenberg comes off a little more than weird.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Christmas Movie, December 14, 2005
This review is from: Single Santa Seeks Mrs. Claus (DVD)
This film was originally shown on the Hallmark channel in 2004 and I know it is being repeated this year. It's a sappy charmer but the best Christmas movies tend to be sappy charmers anyway and this one does a very good job. The movie stars Steve Guttenberg who had really kind of disappeared for a few years but seems to be making a but of a comeback even if it's not in A features.

Guttenberg is Nick, the son of Santa Claus. His dad is retiring and Nick is going to take over the job but before he can he has to find a Mrs. Claus. Now obviously this is same plot used in the Santa Clause 2 so while it's not terribly original, it's pulled off well for a TV movie. Anyway he heads to Southern California where he eventually meets Beth played by Crystal Bernard. He of coruse has to win Beth over and convince her to believe in Santa. Beth is a hard-working career woman, widower, and mother who has a son named Jake. She works for an ad agency and Nick actually plays Santa in commercials that the company does. Well of course you know how the film turns out, right?

Guttenberg is always a likable guy and brings a regular guy charm to his roles. Bernard is equally likable, always playing the nice girl. It's a good family picture. Hallmark had made a sequel called "Meet the Santas" which should be popping up any day now. As they say...check your listings!

This review is from: Single Santa Seeks Mrs. Claus (DVD)
This is a great holiday movie for the whole family. All of my kids enjoyed it as much as I did! It was great to see Crystal Bernard back in a "fun" role and with the old Helen from Wings look back again!!

There is a sequel to this movie coming out this year. On Dec 17th Hallmark will premire 'Meet The Santas'. Should be another good movie!!

This has been my favorite new Christmas movie in recent years. Steve Guttenberg is a warm, gentle, and romantic Santa who makes my toes curl, but who also also possesses a natural understanding and affection for children that would melt anyone's heart. Crystal Bernard is perfect as a loving single mom full of energy and feistiness, trying to hide a wounded spirit and deep loneliness. The two of them are magic together on the screen, and the film has one of the most touching happy endings of any movie around. Buy it and watch it with a cup of hot chocolate and a fuzzy blanket. It's a winner.

This review is from: Single Santa Seeks Mrs. Claus (DVD)
I just caught the engaging SINGLE SANTA SEEKS MRS. CLAUS on the Hallmark Channel and liked it well enough that, now, I want to throw my two cents in. Steve Guttenberg (POLICE ACADEMY, THREE MEN AND A BABY, COCOON) plays Nick, the bachelor offspring of the real Santa Claus, who, in a year's time, is slated to take over his old man's traditional position. But, first, he needs to get himself a wife and he needs to do it before Christmas eve. In search of such, he journeys to sunny California and bumps into Beth (Crystal Bernard, WINGS), an overworked ad exec and single mom, who is very practical and doesn't believe in Santa Claus. What follows is Nick's courtship of Beth and her little boy Jake, who, by the way, though liking Nick a lot, seems to be the only one to notice something weird about him. Of course, since a movie isn't a movie without some conflict, what we get is a harried Beth, constantly being pressured by her boss about various work projects, who must ultimately decide between her vocational advancement and her personal life.

This being a Christmas family movie and a Hallmark one, at that, it tends to suffer from being a little too treacly. But Guttenberg's warmth, boyish likability and his chemistry with the lovely Bernard go a long way to make the sometimes cloying sentimentality palatable. There are nice touches here as Nick covertly applies his magical abilities to make things and the people around him better (Nick magically enabling a store Santa to communicate with a deaf girl is particularly neat). But, seemingly, what works best for Nick is his innate, jovial charm and indiscriminating friendliness to everyone. Just witness his easy rapport with the child actress who couldn't remember her line and was subsequently yelled at by the old actor playing Santa for a commercial.

There are no special effects to speak of, and, really, none are required. The performances of the actors and the cute premise are endearing enough that the viewer is swayed early on to suspend belief and buy into the unlikely plot. Of course, it helps that it's shown predominantly around the holidays. I honestly had fun watching this movie, which, in my opinion, is superior to the boorish SANTA CLAUSE 2. And, thanks to the reviewers here, I just found out that there's a sequel; so I'll just have to keep my eyes open for MEET THE SANTAS.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ladyvalerie, January 9, 2007
This review is from: Single Santa Seeks Mrs. Claus (DVD)
Grab your blanket and get all snug on your couch! Steve Guttenbergs' character Nick was so sweet and some of the things he said were so touching that I just get all squeaky-voiced just thinking about it! I was surprised too because I haven't seen ol' Steve since, what, 1985? I was a little skeptical, but I'm glad I decided to buy it. Cyrstal Bernard (Beth) is good on here too. I haven't seen her since "Wings" and it was nice watching her spunk again. This is a movie about Santa's son who needs to find a wife and comes across an overworked, stressed out widow with a young son. She has a hard time believing in anything that can bring joy let alone St. Nick. The question is will Beth open her heart to Nick and just let go and believe? The little kid that plays her son was adorable! I totally recommend this movie for anyone who loves easy, sweet, romantic movies that are especially Christmas oriented.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cute Movie for the Whole Family, July 25, 2007
This review is from: Single Santa Seeks Mrs. Claus (DVD)
There is nothing objectionable in this movie, just good entertainment. I think the actors did a good job - especially the little boy who played Jake - and I love Crystal Bernard's hair! The only thing the director could have asked for is a little more emotion from her - I saw more when she played Helen on Wings! But it is a good movie, the kind you want to watch curled up on the couch with hot chocolate on a snowy afternoon!
