Worth a read second hand,

This review is from: Single White E Mail (Paperback)
As somebody who would someday like to write a book, I must admit I bought this one as an example of the minimum possible publishing standard. It just looked bad; the simplest possible story ever. And it was, indeed, hard to keep reading those first few chapters with Adams' stream-of-thought writing style. It was definitely conforming to my expectation of an awful read.In all fairness, I can't say that my lack of interest was entirely due to her writing. I'm a man, and as such, listening to a woman whine about past relationships is about as appealing as a root canal. This is especially true when it's so easy to see why every man in her past chose to dump her. Maybe women find this kind of thing more appealing. But it was a tough ride at first. However, while the story line is about as plain-Jane as it gets, there were some interesting and colorful characters. And Victoria's change from needy, insecure dumpee to a woman with a rudimentary backbone was to some degree satisfying, albeit predictable (except the true identity of Pierre Dubois and the angle of a man looking for true love. That was cool). The book is a nice snapshot of those days when we all first were experimenting with email, the Internet and online romance. Buy it second hand and you'll feel that the price / quality ratio is just about right.
