4.0 out of 5 stars This is a message that is not out there much!
This is a book for singles that is not out there too much. It challenges singles to use their singleness to advance the cause of Christ with all of the extra time we have by not having children & spouses. The world's message is to live to please yourself, but this book - like the Bible - challenges us to live to know, serve, and please God.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mr. or Miss Christian Single, please get this booklet!, August 13, 2001

This review is from: Singled Out for Him (Paperback)
When I read how old Nancy Leigh DeMoss was, I said to myself "There's hope for me in finding a godly mate yet!" After reading "Singled Out for Him," my thinking changed to "I want to be like her!" Her booklet has encouraged me so much in my walk as a Christian single that I'm purchasing 10 copies of it to pass along to other Christian singles to encourage them. I highly recommend that every Christian single read this book. (I agree that the booklet was too short but I'm still giving it 5 stars.)

I loved what Nancy had to say and I immediately made some changes in my life. I even taught on this book at a bible study b/c I felt that it was full of wisdom that Christian singles desperately need. It truly was an answer to my prayer on how to better equip singles to make their singleness more effective and to make Godly decisions in everything we do.

5.0 out of 5 stars A gem, January 29, 2010

I hesitated before buying this book because I figured it would be more of the same trite,run-of-the-mill stuff that I already knew, so after purchasing it I didn't really expect much. I read it all the way through in one night/early morning. Reading it has affected me so much more than all the other books I've been reading lately on grief and being alone. It brought me to a level of contentment I hadn't had since my loss. It might not be a book to which all singles could or choose to relate, but it fills the need for those of us who want a better relationship with God first and foremost. The fact that the book is short and to-the-point does not mean it's lightweight. The author wrote from her heart without any padding or fluff. Very straightforward. It really helped me deal with the huge void and emptiness I felt and helped take me to another level in my walk with the Lord.

"It looked like a high-end corporate jet, the luxurious, long-range Bombardier that landed at the Lynchburg, Va., airport on a sunny Thursday afternoon in September. But no corporate executive disembarked.

Instead, out stepped Nancy Leigh DeMoss.

She is a trustee of the Arthur S. DeMoss Foundation, a private charitable foundation whose mission is to support Christian organizations. The Globe Spotlight Team determined the foundation spent $36 million in 2001 to buy the 12-seat, transoceanic jet -- and millions more over the last two decades to own and operate two prior jets. It is the kind of extravagance that has infuriated shareholders of public companies during the corporate scandals of the past two years. Yet private planes and other big-ticket expenses go virtually unnoticed in the world of philanthropy, even though foundations are publicly subsidized through huge tax breaks for the wealthy donors who set them up."

About singleness and marriage, DeMoss writes "The question is not "What do I want for myself?" but "What does God want for me?" What will please Him and bring Him the greatest glory?", even though the scriptures NEVER implore us to consider such variables in the decision to marry, which is ALWAYS spoken of in terms of personal choice (Prov.18:22, 1 Cor 7:7-9, 36, 39, 9:5) and practical needs (Genesis 2, 1 Cor 7:2-3, 7-9, 1 Tim 5:14). But what on earth would she know about the practical needs of ordinary single women, with a fortune and connections that would make Paris Hilton blush?
