5.0 out of 5 stars Don't mess around with a guy in shades...oh no!, August 20, 2003

B-MAN "B" (Earth, occasionally. Until I get bored.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Singles 1983-1990 (Audio CD)
This 1992 Corey Hart compilation is the only one you need. Two others are available: The 1998 10 song "Best of" and 2002's "Classic Masters". All the songs from these two are available on "Singles" except for "Dancin' with my mirror" from his '86 album Fields of Fire. "Singles" also includes 4 tracks not on any other compilation: "Eurasian Eyes", "Don't take me to the racetrack", "Bang! (Starting Over), & "Spot you in a coal mine". The choice is obvious: "The Singles" is the definitive Corey Hart compilation.

4.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive Cory, October 22, 2000
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Singles 1983-1990 (Audio CD)
This is the most complete, comprehensive collection of Corey Hart's most significant chart hits and album tracks to date...For those who are afficionados of hard edged rockers mixed with comtemporary ballads, then this collection is for you...Most impressive is Cory's heartfelt, emotional interpretation of the Elvis classic "Can't Help From Falling In Love." Other standouts include the MTV ready "Sunglasses At Night," a quintessential hit of the 1980's and what I perceive to be his signature song "Never Surrender." By the end of the 1980's, Hart's vocal delivery and songwriting capabilities evolved (he recently contributed 2 tracks "Where Is The Love" and "Miles To Go [Before I Sleep] for Celine Dion's megahit album "Let's Talk About Love"). Unfortunately, he was omitted from the radio playlists all too soon. This collection highlights the best of his 1980's output. If you wish to follow Cory up to date, I highly recommend his 1998 import CD "Jade."

5.0 out of 5 stars NEVER SURRENDER..., November 18, 2003
This review is from: Singles 1983-1990 (Audio CD)
Corey Hart's SINGLES was supposed to bring his best tracks from this first 5 albums...it almost does it.
Among all the great tracks included here, we miss some...songs like "Angry young man", "Goin' home" and "Dancing with my mirror"(all from the 1986 release FIELDS OF FIRE), "Truth will set you free" (from 1988's YOUNG MAN RUNNING)or even "Hold on" (included on the Beverly Hills Cop 2 sdtk.)are missing.
On the brighter side, wonderful songs like "It ain't enough","In your soul", "Never surrender" are all here. The obvious "Sunglasses at night" is here too.
All in all, a great collection of singles and well-written pop music. If you don't know that much about Corey Hart's work, this is a good start. But, take an advice from this guy, go after the other tiltes...they are worth it...trust me!!!
And if you wanna check how his music has developed, look for his
ATTITUDE AND VIRTUE (1992), COREY HART (1997), nad most recently JADE (1998). You won't be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Goodbye EMI deal, November 28, 2002
By
This review is from: Singles 1983-1990 (Audio CD)
This collection of Corey also marks his ending with his former label.
The CD is a compilation of all (almost) his greatest hits off his first 5 albums with EMI.
Delated from the list are the singles ANGRY YOUNG MAN and DANCIN WITH MY MIRROR.
In return you get a remix version of SPOT YOU IN A COALMINE and the FOLLOW THE SUN version of his 1990 BANG album (the original appeared on YOUNG MAN RUNNING back in 1988).
No unreleased tracks or nice extras (the track cut for the BEVERLY HILLS COP 2 original soundtrack...sigh)
But if you are not a Corey fan this is definitely a good list of his best known works to start you with.

This is the most comprehensive collection to date that compiles all of the significant chart hits that dominated the airwaves in the 1980's...For those who like hard edged riffs mixed with modern comtemporary ballads, then this collection is for you...Most impressive is Cory's interpretation of the Elvis classic "Can't Help Falling In Love," a highly charged, emotional piece that beautifully showcases his voice...Also, there is the quinessential track that launched his career the MTV ready "Sunglasses At Night" and what I perceive to be his signature song, "Never Surrender." By the end of the 80's, Cory was maturing in his vocal delivery and songwriting abilities(he has recently contributed 2 tracks "Where Is The Love" and "Miles To Go[Before I Sleep] for Celine Dion's multiplatinum megahit "Let's Talk About Love.)", Unfortunately, his solo material was deleted from the national playlists all too soon...This collection compiles the best of his 80's output...For those who wish to follow Cory up to date...I highly recommend the import 1998 CD "Jade."

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Music, October 16, 2010

This review is from: Singles 1983-1990 (Audio CD)
I did not know how many songs this man had out until i purchased this cd, and learned of all the albums he's had. Always thought he had two albums and then disappeared, but he apparently was big elsewhere (not u.s.) his songs here though are quintessential 80s songs, you can't buy an eighties collection without sunglasses at night or "never surrender" being on it. Very great collection (though I am no expert on Corey Hart so I can't say what's been omitted or what shouldn't have been included) This Collection does make me want to go out and find his original albums to see what I have missed. This is a great starting place though for anyone interested in either getting his greatest hits or just wondering what else he has to offer besides the big radio hits.

I heard song after song that I loved on Pandora, and kept noticing so many of them were all on this CD. So I clicked once on the Pandora Amazon link, and a second time on the one click purchase Amazon link. And two days latter I had it! And there were even more songs on it that I hadn't yet heard that I really like. I noticed this was produced over 10 years ago!? How could I have missed this all this time!?

Grandpa! I love the internet! Thank you for giving me such a glorious world where all this is possible!

5.0 out of 5 stars All his 80s hits are here!, December 9, 1999

If you liked the young, brash Corey Hart that hit the stage with "Sunglasses At Night" way back in 1983, you'll love this CD. All those early hits--"Never Surrender", "Eurasian Eyes", and "It Ain't Enough" among my faves--are here.

This is 80s nostalgia from one of Montreal's own at its best.

This is an excellent CD. I only knew a couple of his songs, but listened to his other songs on a couple of streaming music programs and thought it was great, so I decided to buy the whole CD.
