4.0 out of 5 stars Complete & Enthralling!, December 10, 2002
This review is from: Singles 90-98 (Audio CD)
This box set is, for lack of a better word, massive. All 11 Massive Attack singles from "Blue Lines", "Protection" and "Mezzanine" are collected here, complete with B-sides and a host of remixes. A quick breakdown of why this is a worthy addition to any MA fan's record collection.

Outstanding Remixes
1. Daydreaming (Luv It Mix)
2. Daydreaming (Brixton Bass Mix)
3. Safe From Harm (Perfecto Mix)
4. Protection (Underdog's Angel Dust Mix)
5. Karmacoma (Portishead Experience)
6. Karmacoma (Napoli Trip)
7. Risingson (Underworld Mix)
8. Teardrop (Scream Team Remix)
9. Inertia Creeps (Manic Street Preachers Version)
10. Back/She Comes (Mad Professor)

Premium B-Sides
1. Any Love
2. Home of the Whale
3. Superpredators

Excellent Overall Singles
1. Daydreaming
2. Safe From Harm
3. Hymn of the Big Wheel
4. Teardrop
5. Inertia Creeps

Hidden Treasures
1. Any Love (Larry Heard Remix)
2. Be Thankful For What You've Got (Perfecto Mix)

The heat-sensitive packaging is excellent, and the only misfire I can think of is the Blur remix of Angel. An excellent representation of the evolution of MA, this collection is a treat for diehards and casual fans alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can I get a witness!, March 29, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Singles 90-98 (Audio CD)
I know its all singles, that you've heard; from albums, that you have; and a bit pricey, and that you're poor. I can't help it though, the truth must be told, and this is indispensibly brilliant. There is no way a fan should not have this. Sometimes you get that same thrill like the first time you heard the Massive, or when you heard the new song you'd been aching for--and this from songs you've probably heard a thousand times by now. Even the less-than-spectacular remixes are great. Just wait until you hear the awesome ones.

I just wanted to confirm for those of you on the fence: Yes. Neccessary.

And I think the Blur remix is COOL...

5.0 out of 5 stars Blue Neon, August 20, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Singles 90-98 (Audio CD)
I'd say this is a good collection for the B-Sides alone, especially if you don't feel like hunting down out of print singles. Euro Zero Zero is a pretty cool remake of "Eurochild" from Protection. It's not as good as the original, at least I think it isn't, but that probably wasn't the point of remaking it anyway. But "Reflection," though, that's one of Massive Attack's coolest songs! From the Inertia Creeps single, Reflection is a little more rocking and faster than most MA songs, almost to the point where it sounds like they had Trent Reznor or some other industrial rock guy in the studio with them. The Inertia Creeps single also gives us the excellent Manic Street Preachers remix of Inertia Creeps, which in some ways outdoes the original, probably due to all of the variation the Preachers added into their mix, ie the guitars and la-la backing vocals, whereas the original version of the song is kinda the same beat and music over and over. Don't get me wrong, Inertia Creeps is one of MA's best songs, off of my favortie MA album, and I've been following them since Blue Lines came out. I mean, the guys really can't do wrong. Still miss hearing Tricky trade rhymes with 3-D, though. Oh well, buy this, you'll like it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Totality, January 7, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Singles 90-98 (Audio CD)
This is EVERYTHING - well everything singles-wise from 1990 to present date (Interia Creeps), that's 11 CD's. This means a whole load of remixes - usually 3 per track and one B side per cd. This is a purchase for completists only. Pros: Every single release to date which includes very good remixes from the likes of the Mad Professor, Portishead and Manic Street Preachers. Amazing Box with heat sensitive ink that goes white to touch revealing scriblings by Del Naja and returns to black overnight. Cons: Some very bad remixes eg. the Blur remix of Angel. Not the original sleeve art for the individual CD's.

I'm extremely happy with the box set, If you're a recent Massive Attack fan (ie. Mezzanine) you'd be better off buying their albums Blue Lines and Protection (in that order), if you find you've then been drawn into this strange world then this box set is the next step for you.

Ps. Unfinished Sympathy remains the best single ever relesed - it's that simple.

5.0 out of 5 stars My god. If you like Massive Attack, or even if you don't..., March 28, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Singles 90-98 (Audio CD)
This, people, is one of the BEST collections of music I've -ever- heard. And I have heard many, many collections of music. The number of songs... the number - and quality - of the remixes... my god, it's absolutely incredible. Like Massive Attack? Only ever heard one of their songs and think they're "ok"? Stop reading and GET THIS BOX. Even Portishead have done a mix! If you've searched this far and come to this review, you've found your goal. GET THIS ALBUM. It's slightly more expensive than most, but WOW it's worth it. It is -so- worth it. Absolutely worth every single tiny penny.

I shall say no more, because it's wasting precious listening time.

4.0 out of 5 stars fantastic collection of rare tracks, April 6, 2007
This review is from: Singles 90-98 (Audio CD)
''Super Predators'' is just superb with this sample of ''metal poscard'' of Siouxsie and the Banshees. Actually, super predators appeared in 1997 on the jackal movie soundtrack. I just simply love it, it's toxic.

The remixes will give you minutes of heady pleasure, especially the ones from 'mezzanine'.

5.0 out of 5 stars DA BOMB DA BOMB DA BOMB!, June 7, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Singles 90-98 (Audio CD)
I know this may sound repetative and repetative, but this box set is probably one of the most incredible things I own in my CD collection. It's got an insane number of CDs with an insane number of tracks. I feel embarrassed to say that it is not the most money I've ever spent on a box set (the Joy Division one cost me a pretty penny) but every single moment is totally worth it. EVERY remix is a beautiful testament and tribute to Massvie Attack's brilliance. The Blur remix is da bomb and the Underworld track is a must for any Underworld fan (it's as good as "Dirty Epic", baby!) UNKLE and Portishead are all up in this as well. This box set is basically the manifesto of the heavyweights of the future of music. The only thing that would make this collection complete is if somehow Radiohead or Bjork popped up somewhere...oh well, the Massives have so much time left to surprise us. BUY THIS YOU IDIOTS! And yes, Unfinished Sympathy is the most beautiful song in the world. Tina Turner covers it. Isn't that odd....

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fantastic Collection & an Interesting History, March 20, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Singles 90-98 (Audio CD)
One of the great things about this collection is that it allows you to hear the evolution of the band from the Blue Lines days to now. Most every track is a winner (I only wish that not so many included radio edits). Having been an active member of the Church of Massive Attack since the release of the Protection album, this is a great treat for me and any other fan. I'd say it's also a fairly good introduction to the band. The Karmacoma and Inertia Creeps disks are my own personal favorites...

5.0 out of 5 stars PLAIN AND SIMPLE: A MASTERPIECE!!!!!, January 27, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Singles 90-98 (Audio CD)
It contains every version of every single son ever released... that in itself is pretty impressive... however, I reccommend it only to people who are really into massive attack... Like the other reviewer said, get the other cd's in that order if you're new to the band... or what the hell? Buy this as well, I guarantee that you will be drawn into the band's music. Massive Attack has changed many aspects of the music we hear today.
