4.0 out of 5 stars STYLISH VOCAL POP, January 20, 2004
This review is from: Singles Album (Audio CD)
The Welsh singer Shirley Bassey was a regular visitor to the UK charts during the 1960s and 1970s. She faded the next decade although the Swiss group Yello put her on the charts again with the collaboration The Rhythm Divine in 1987. This album contains mostly exquisite interpretations of classic songs from the era, like I (Who Have Nothing), George Harrison's Something, Where Do I Begin (theme from Love Story) and For All We Know. She had huge hits with Goldfinger and Diamonds Are Forever (both James Bond movie themes) plus catchy power ballads like Never Never Never. Bassey was a stylish vocalist who lent her particular charm to the golden era of pop with her beautiful voice and her memorable ballads. There may be better compilations available but The Singles album covers her most fruitful period and includes most of her big hits.
