Who are The Loot?,
This review is from: Singles A's & B's (Audio CD)
The "British Invasion" of the '60s was an amazing time for pop music. The beat groups of England took over the role of leadership by taking U.S. rhythm & blues, and selling it back to the American youth who hadn't really heard it before. Lots of impressive groups came out of that time. The Loot wasn't one of them. I never heard of them until recently, and I know this era of music pretty well. The Loot came out of Andover, which is the same area The Troggs came from. Not only that, Dave Wright, The Loot's rhythm guitarist, actually played guitar in an early version of The Troggs. The Loot even got signed to Page One, Larry Page's label, where The Troggs produced `Wild Thing' and their early material. The Loot are a bit poppier than The Troggs, but they should not have been as overlooked as they were. They're a good consistent pop band, and successfully move from the mid `60s beat group stage into the beginnings of psychedelia in the late `60s. If you have a fondness for The Troggs, which I certainly do, this might be a good band for you to check out!
