awkward album,

When I first heard of this c.d., I was very excited, even though there were only three songs on it that I had not previously owned. Being one of the biggest Blessid Union fans in the world, I found it to flow rather awkwardly. All the albums have their own sound, so when selections from the previous three were together, they didn't sound right. Their singles are only equivelants to their other tracks, this band does not believe in filler. The new songs were exceptional, however I felt they were missing that true meaning that most of their songs have. I recomend this c.d. to anyone who just wants to get their feet wet with Blessid Union's unique diversity, but if you really want to indulge yourself in their sound, get a hold of the previous three albums. Songs missing: "Who's To Blame", "Walk Away", "It's Alright", "As Long As We're Together", "In Your Life", and the acoustic "I Believe".

A Must Have!,

Blessid Union of Souls is a band that deserves much more credit. Lead singer Eliot Sloan's expressive voice fits perfectly with the pop-rock music reminiscent of Barenaked Ladies or Hootie and the Blowfish. You have no doubt heard the band at least once on the radio - but not many have dug deeper to discover more of their music. "The Singles" is a great opportunity to have all of their best on one CD. This album is something that any fan of music will appreciate. Included are the hits "I Believe," "Hey Leonardo" (original and live versions), and "Let Me Be the One," as well as two new songs: "And Then She Hit Me" and "Storybook Life," I suggest you purchase this immediately - and see what you've been missing!

Decent songs from an average band,
This review is from: Singles (Audio CD)
First of all, let me start by complaining that this is an "Enhanced" CD, which means when you pop it in the CD drive of your computer, it screws up any programs you have running until you exit out of the "Enhanced" features. I wish they would make these "Enahnced" CD's so that you can access that info if you want to and not make it a default that automatically pops up every time you put the CD in your disc drive. It is a real pain to stop everything you are doing and exit out of the "Enhanced" features so that you can just listen to the music while you work.
Now, on to the music content. Blessid Union of Souls was one of those bands that I barely paid attention to when they first came to fame. When I first heard "I Believe", I thought it was good. But the song was overplayed at radio and the social message of the lyrics got a little tiresome after repeated plays. Other songs that followed were OK, if somewhat forgettable. In fact, until I bought this CD, I had almost forgotten songs like "Light in Your Eyes", "Let me be the One", and "I Wanna Be There". I had pretty much forgotten how many hits this band had. I like these songs, but they are just pretty much safe, AC/Rock. The one song that does stand out from those early recordings is "Oh Virginia", which moves a step away from AC and kicks in a little hint of blues. My favorite songs are actually both from their 1999 release, "Walking Off the Buzz". "Hey Leonardo (She Likes me for Me)" was just the song they needed to create some buzz about them and get them back on the charts. The band really cut loose on this tune and the fun that they had with it really shows through. "Standing at the Edge of the Earth" returns them to their "oh-so-serious" mode of earlier recordings, but this one is less boring than the earlier ballads. In fact, instead of just plodding along like some of their songs, this one builds to a passionate ending. I recommend this CD for "Hey Leonardo" and "Standing at the Edge of the Earth" and as a bonus you get all of their previous hits. The one song to really ignore is "Rev it Up (NASCAR Rocks)". An obvious attempt to get played on NASCAR programs.

Only missing one song!,

I really love all the songs on this cd!! The only song that it is missing, I think, is "Jelly". It may not have been a radio hit, but it is one of my favorite songs by BUOS, and I really wish that it could have been on this cd with all of the rest of their terrific songs!

Just picked up the new album by Blessid Union of Souls called The Singles. This album rocks! It has all of their greatest hits like Hey Leonardo and I Believe, plus the never released NASCAR song Rev It Up and two videos for Hey Leonardo and Rev It Up. I would definitely recommend this album for all.

I realize it has been almost 5 years since anyone last reviewed this CD, so I thought it was due time for these guys to get a nod in the new decade.
Blessid Union of Souls is one of those underrated bands that you've probably heard their songs but not know their name. In the vein of "Hootie and the Blowfish" (one of my favorite 90's bands), they have a pop-folkish sound that relies on strong, clear vocals, accoustic guitars and, often, heavy societal messages. Their music ranges from fun and nonsensical ("Hey, Leonardo") to the socially relevant message ("I Believe"). There are incredible songs that tear into my heart about patient, constant, unending love ("The Light In Your Eyes" and "Standing at the Edge of the Earth"). If you are a Blessid Union fan, this is the best of their work conveniently placed on one CD. If you are not a fan, allow me to introduce you to a creative, unique band that sadly didn't get the recognition and success they deserved to have a longer career. Give this CD a listen.

This CD is the best of the best from BUOS. The "punkie irie" remix of "I Believe" is incredible. I absolutely love "Storybook Life", and getting to hear some of 3XL's amazing talent. I highly recommend this CD to everyone!

A few years ago, when I first heard Blessid Union of Souls, I thought they were a bad band. Now, with their songs, "Hey Leonardo (She Likes Me For Me)" and "Storybook Life", I'm starting to re-think my opinion on Blessid Union of Souls and actually like them now. I also heard "I Believe", which is another great song. I haven't heard this complete album, but I've heard most of the songs and they are pretty good. If you're a Blessid Union of Souls fan, then this is a definite must-have for your B.U.S. collection!
