Excellent 80s music!,
By
This review is from: Singles Collection: 1981-1993 (Audio CD)
I bought this CD way back in June of 2003 and, like many other CDs I buy, it sat on my shelf for more than a year until I noticed that I had it. I always knew "You Keep Me Hangin On" and "Kids in America," so I figured I would like the other songs, but hardly listened to it once I received it.
It wasn't until today, actually, Sept. 1, 2004, that I began to like the CD. I woke up nearly an hour late for work, and simply grabbed whatever CD I could find in the dark (this was at 5:30 am) to listen to in the car. I don't know how this works, but I simply suddenly LOVED all the songs! Kim is definitely one of the forgotten relics from the era of big hair and bad synth, and she should've had more success in American by far. Many say they don't care for "Cambodia," but it's one of my favs. "Rage to Love" and "The Second Time" I like a lot, too. Hearing "You Came" and "Never Trust a Stranger" was like hearing God! I don't dislike any of the songs on this album. And if you're a fan of 80s music, you won't, either. :)

Kim Wilde: HOT HOT HOT!!!,
By
This review is from: Singles Collection: 1981-1993 (Audio CD)
Britney Spears, eat your heart out! Kim Wilde is the hottest '80s chick period. Her music is awesome, and her image is so sexy. Her songs are wonderful: "Kids in America" is a new wave classic, her remake of "You Keep Me Hangin' On" is still dynamic, and there are several other British hits on here that are all great.
She is my favorite female vocalist, and I would kill to meet her. If you want proof that British girls are sexier than Americans look no further than Miss Wilde.

Mainstream pop was once good?! *gasps*,

Yeah, I said it. This is mainstream pop. It is good.
This CD really comes to show how much the music industry has deteriorated in the past two decades. Why are talentless camera-hogs like Britney and Jessica constantly getting airplay in lieu of Kim Wilde, I ask? I could think endlessly, for hours, trying to find an answer to this puzzling question, but still probably couldn't. It's an enigma. Anyways, I had never actually heard of Wilde until a few years ago - and I discovered her music in two different places. The first was through the video game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, in which "Kids in America" became a standout favorite of mine, and the second was a cover of "You Keep Me Hangin' On" by the Norwegian band Theatre of Tragedy. I found both songs to be incredibly addictive, so I decided I would try to look for a CD of hers, which brought me here. The Singles Collection includes 17 excellent pop tracks (or a combination of punk-pop, dancepop and soft ballads) from the 80s and early 90s. Beginning with the faster-paced anthems like "Kids in America" and "Chequered Love", and ending with the calmer, smoother sounds of "In My Life" and the "If I Can't Have You" cover, this compilation offers an excellent insight into the changes of Kim's character and voice over the years. Meanwhile, we have the energetic dancefloor hits "Never Trust a Stranger" and fan favorite "You Came", as well as downtuned ballads like "Child Come Away" and the overlooked "Cambodia" that make you wonder why Kim never completely broke through to the American mainstream. In conclusion, I think any fan of 80s music should track this down. Although Madonna was the prime diva of the decade, Kim Wilde makes a nice entrance into second place. Classic stuff.
