4.0 out of 5 stars Great collection for any fan
The Singles Collection brings together a bunch of rare tracks from various Dropkick Murphys singles, compilations or splits. All the good stuff from those is here. If you're a hardcore Dropkick Murphys then you probably have all these tracks already but this is a great thing for the casual fan.

2.0 out of 5 stars What happened to the rebellious punk?
The problem isn't that this is a set of cover songs. The problem is that around their tenth year the Dropkicks changed direction from rebellious punk - working class to their core - into another wanna-be arena band. The whole sound is different, from the arrangements to the production. Their choice of material is fine, though I don't see how their cover of "Nutrocker"...

The Singles Collection brings together a bunch of rare tracks from various Dropkick Murphys singles, compilations or splits. All the good stuff from those is here. If you're a hardcore Dropkick Murphys then you probably have all these tracks already but this is a great thing for the casual fan.

There is a lot of good stuff here. There's a surprisingly strong cover of AC/DC's "It's a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock & Roll)" complete with good vocals. A great cover of Gang Green's alcohol. A very garage sounding cover of CCR's oft covered "Fortunate son". "21 Guitar Salute" is a strong cover of the great Press song and the anthemic "Working" is a great addition. The album is mainly covers with a few original songs along with a few splits like the Dropkick Murphys/Business split "Mob Mentality". The covers are for the most part including covers from **** Sparrer, Danzig, and Motorhead amongst others.

The quality of the album and the presentation is strong and all the songs sound as crisp as any of their albums. The strong vocal quality, talented instrumental work and original sound are all here in full force so this should be a good buy for any Dropkick Murphys fan. 4 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Is Awesome..., November 28, 2005

This is such an awesome collection here, I'm really glad it was released. Basically this is just a cover CD, with the exception of a few songs. But when you put a great band like Dropkick covering great songs, you get great results. They cover everything from rock classics like "Its A Long Way To The Top" and "Fortunate Son" to Cock Sparrer "Shock Troops" era classics like "Working" and "Watch Your Back". And then there is the hilarious remix of "Pipebomb" (its a joke people!). They also cover my favorite Sham 69 song on here, so thats cool too. This is just a great cd period. Highly reccomended to anyone.

2.0 out of 5 stars What happened to the rebellious punk?, November 11, 2011
This review is from: Singles Collection 2 (Audio CD)
The problem isn't that this is a set of cover songs. The problem is that around their tenth year the Dropkicks changed direction from rebellious punk - working class to their core - into another wanna-be arena band. The whole sound is different, from the arrangements to the production. Their choice of material is fine, though I don't see how their cover of "Nutrocker" adds anything to any discussion and the censored "Pipebomb" should have been left on the cutting room floor (they say its a joke but it's not really funny and I'll never get those minutes of my life back), but in their new guise they want to be butcher than the originals. The Business, Angelic Upstarts used to throw bottles - I suspect these Murphys would make sure the bottle was empty before they let one go. Calculated anger. Gang Green, whose "Alcohol" is here, is a fair comparison, and that doesn't reflect well on the Hellcat band. If this is a band that can do no wrong in your eyes then a review is irrelevant. But if you've heard some older stuff you like and are wondering if this might be a good more extended introduction I'd stick with the first SINGLES COLLECTION collecting their earlier years. That first one was a keeper.

2.0 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware, September 20, 2011

B-sides & Early Stuff. I knew this before buying it, but I thought to myself "sometimes B-sides are good, just not popular. and the early stuff MUST be good if they're still around." I was wrong. I have listened to this a few times now, and I do not enjoy it. Breaks my heart to say it, since I am a huge DKM fan, but it's true.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great set of rare songs and covers, February 6, 2007
This review is from: Singles Collection 2 (Audio CD)
This collection has some amazing tracks; I can't believe that some of them didn't make it onto the normal albums. There are a bunch of covers, like Halloween by The Misfits, Vengeance by The Nipple Erectors, Informer by The Business, and Watch Your Back by Cock Sparrer. Additionally, the Business and DKM team up to perform Mob Mentality. Some great DKM originals include 21 Guitar Salute and Pipebomb On Lansdowne (Dance Remix). Mostly covers here, but they're really well done. I highly recommend this CD.

I just bought it today since i got it, i have been in love with it. There are lots of covers but thats not a bad thing. Another good thing is that Al Barr is singing alot and i think hes the better singer. The only downside to this cd is they only play bag pipes in three or four songs. You all should buy this cd its worth it trust me

2.0 out of 5 stars Very disapointing, April 20, 2005
This review is from: Singles Collection 2 (Audio CD)
I already have all these songs, and I was looking foward to cd quality versions of songs that I only have on vinyl. I was exremely disapointed to find out that they censored Pipebomb on Landsdowne Street. What a rip off!!!! The unsencored version's hillarious and was meant as a joke, but the band pussied out and censored it probably cause they thought that they'd offend some people. Man this band used to be cool, now they're just a bunch of pussies. I recomend you hunt down the AF split and listen to the uncensored version of the song.
