5.0 out of 5 stars Definitive hits collection of original recordings
By far the strongest collection of Connie's music currently available, this comprises two CD's of original recording containing all the essential British and American hits (a few minor hits are missing) as well as some tracks recorded in German and Italian. 5.0 out of 5 stars Definitive hits collection of original recordings, October 2, 2004
This review is from: The Singles + (Audio CD)
By far the strongest collection of Connie's music currently available, this comprises two CD's of original recording containing all the essential British and American hits (a few minor hits are missing) as well as some tracks recorded in German and Italian. Some fans may not like this, preferring the German and Italian tracks to be kept separate, but I don't mind. This set, as is customary for double CD's in this series contains a booklet with extensive liner notes and a chart history for several different countries.

Connie was the first female singer to succeed against the men of rock'n'roll - and Connie could certainly rock as some of these songs prove. Connie's best up-tempo songs were Lipstick on your collar, Stupid Cupid and Vacation. Everybody's somebody's fool is a brilliant mid-tempo country-flavored song. As good as those hits are, it was as a ballad singer that Connie really did best

Who's sorry now, Among my souvenirs, Together and Carolina moon, four classic ballads that Connie made her own, are not original songs as many assume - they are all covers of songs written in the 1920's, Other classic ballads include Don't break the heart that loves you (only a minor UK hit for Connie but a huge American hit), My happiness (a cover of a 1940's song), Breaking in a brand new broken heart, Mama, My heart has a mind of its own, Many tears ago and Where the boys are.

If you are interested in rock'n'roll music of the late fifties and early sixties, Connie's music should appeal to you. Several compilations are available but some are re-recordings while others miss out essential songs. This may not be absolutely complete but it is superior to anything else except for the out of print boxed set, Souvenirs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Connie star shines in five countries!, June 19, 2003
This review is from: The Singles + (Audio CD)
This new 2-CD set out of The Netherlands is an excellent addition to anyone's music library, especially the Connie Francis fan. It contains both English & German language hits plus a few in Italian; and the sound quality is excellent.

The booklet lists a dicography of Connie's hits, from 1957-1969, along with the chart positions in five countries, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, the UK and the US.

A long overdue package that is very welcomed to a market almost totally bone dry of Connie Francis music.

Thank you BR Music!

5.0 out of 5 stars VARIETY IS THE SPICE OF LIFE, June 8, 2006
This review is from: The Singles + (Audio CD)
This is a very nice collection--a global affair of Connie's hits from several nations. It is attractively housed and has a terrific booklet inside. This is a fine example of why Connie Francis was indeed the first international star. She sang beautifully in 13 languages and her phrasing and keen understanding of the language is remarkable. She certainly is a one of a kind singer and this set will give you a nice sampling of her talent.
