The very gloomy, very british pop genius Terry Hall has made a record that is so heartbreakingly beautiful that I still get chocked every time I listen to it. It is not this record. It is the out of print album sometimes called "Virgins and Phillistines" sometimes called simply Colourfield. However the four songs of that album that is featured here make this an essential buy. The rest is very smart, off-beat and funny pop tunes. It makes a curious match - the intelligent, tounge in cheek and ironic bagatelles of the Fun Boy Three vs the very serious and dark songs of The Colourfield. Also the production is something else, it sounds like liquid gold. Kind of a mix in heaven of Blonde on Blonde and Rick Rubins best work.

Terry Hall's career several bands, most notably The Specials and Fun Boy Three. But, in the midst of his singing career, he was in an outstanding band called The Colourfield. The Colourfield's initial release, titles "Virgins and Philistines", is unavailable today. This CD contains some of the best music that has come from a Two-Tone artist. Four tracks from this album are available on this CD. The rest of the CD is quite good, with a lot of variety. The songs range from Ska to New Wave to Lounge. But, no matter what your preference, you are sure to find something on here you will like! Try it out and see!
