The usual . . . plus three new songs,

This review is from: Singles (Hk) (Audio CD)
These guys have released more collections than Simple Minds, so I won't bother to say anything about the old stuff, except some of it is sounding old indeed these days. Never mind, I was curious to see what they sound like now, and there are apparently three new songs here. "Bigger Than Dynamite", "Haunted" are pure dance beat pop formula, and the trademark vocal harmonies are still there. The hook in "Bigger" is the best, "Haunted" kind of misses a memorable passage and is a little clumsy in transitions, but it's a decent song. "One About Loneliness" is more anthemic, but really is without a compelling hook, and gets very derivative in the "big" coda.
Well, I can't really see they've changed that much, the sound is more modern, but they haven't transcended their catalog in any particular way. If you like them, you'll like the new stuff, though it will make you swallow hard to put out the dough considering you already have all the other stuff, ad infinitum. If you've never heard of them, I can't give you any particular encouragement to go out of your way.
