5.0 out of 5 stars MASTERPIECE, April 7, 2004
This review is from: Sings America (Audio CD)
As Shakespeare once wrote "Hold thy peace, thou knave, hold thy peace". I guarantee you'll be holding yours once you've slipped this magnificent CD into its receptacle.

The Shakespeare comparison does not end there, as Dougal Floosenborff is the "Shakey" of our generation. Fish out of Marillion once sang "Where are the poets - where are the visionaries...?" He clearly had not encountered the Hoffmeister!

This CD stretches the boundaries (and receptacles!) and pushes the imagination to the hilt! Every song an original master by the master. If you're fed up with losers who blatantly steal other people's hard work to have a hit or two, then this CD is for you. It is utterly incredible and incomparable.

Arlo Guthrie, The Mamas and the Papas, Madonna, John Denver, Niel Diamond - hell, even Elvis Presley all owe a debt of thanks to the songs that appear here, courtesy of the ex-mulletted Baywatch star.

Now if that ain't genius on a level with Shakespeare, then I'm David's lovechild.

The song "Hot Shot City" is particularly good - even though it's not on this disc.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't doubt the Hoff, February 11, 2005
This review is from: Sings America (Audio CD)
This cd is pretty much the story of the messiah of modern music getting sick of comparisons. Hoff has just gotten tired of comparisons to Elvis, Sinatra(both of them), the mamas and papas, Madonna, Neil Diamond, John Denver, etc...and he freakin decided to take their most well known songs and put their versions to shame. Hoff is very gracious to deal with and a wonderful person, but when he's had enough, he addresses the situation. He addressed it on this cd alright. It's funny the games Hasselhoff plays. He lets you record a song and take the fame that goes along with a hit and BAM!! Hoff covers your song making you sound like Booger's belch from Revenge of the Nerds. They used to call Sinatra the "Chairman of the board" before Hoff covered "New York, New York". Hoff is chairman, CEO, emperor or whatever else he wants to be called. Little blue eyes is an intern at Hoff Inc. He takes what it took four people to do on "California Dreaming" and makes you wonder why the mamas and papas wasted so much time recording their piddly music. I could go on and on because he is clearly the Michael Jordan of recording, making the hacks that did these songs in the first place look like Greg Ostertag.

Word from the Hoff camp is that Hoff is planning on singing america again and his targets are Ursher, Michael Bubble, and Jessie McCartney. He will shame them also. Buy this disc, I can't believe you don't already have it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hassehoff is the truth!!, October 17, 2005
This review is from: Sings America (Audio CD)
My days are mostly spent working hard in my chosen career (I will keep my chosen career a secret due to fear of ridicule), but my evenings belong to "The Very Best Of David Hasselhoff".
What can I say about this Euro-disco legend that hasn't already been said?! David personifies the qualities that make up the perfect musical statement, passion, love, talent, leather, emotion, chest hair, and I could go on.
From the opening notes to the closing track this album lifts you up like a dead crab fired from a slingshot, and then beats you back down like a stubborn tent peg.
David Haemorrhoids whines and moans during some songs, and then wails and rhapsodises on others, he's a man marvel! What other recording artist can claim the title of melody supremo umbungo?
I'm a mere mortal, I can admit to that much, but David Hungermite is neither merely a mortal or an immortal, he is an animal born of petrol-induced fury and dirt track dreams. Leather and hair combust when he sings, ear drums quake with fear, CD players short circuit and power grids collapse! Wow!
"Looking For Freedom" makes me want to run through brick walls stark naked and covered in jam, it's a dangerous rhythm beast of a song, a tune that both kisses me and then kicks me! Take the following lyric for example - "Did some work on a farm / got some muscle in my arm" Genius!
My favourite of David's musical odysseys is "Crazy For You", it's a tribute to the late 70's when large hair was worshipped, rock stars were Gods and a song's chorus could go on forever!
That said, the song "Hot Shot City" is particularly good.
