Maria Toledo&Luis Bonfa Magnifico!, April 9, 2010

I first bought this album as a 12 year old kid in the mid 1960s - at a record store near the Jamaica, NY Long Island Railroad station. It was a UA release and a very bad print with a lot of background noise. However it contained some of the finest Brazilian singing and big-band/orchestral arrangements of the Bonfa'classics with Bonfa playing the guitar track-that were very popular at the time (in covers by USA artists like Steve Lawrence-Edie Gorme). My wife bought this cd for me a few years ago, and it remains one of the best albums of its type that I, as a certified music lover and aficionado of original Brazilian jazz (Bonfa, Laurindo Almeida, etc.) have ever heard. It is pure, clean, beautiful and subtle. Maria Toledo, Bonfa's wife has a beautiful, sexy multi-faceted, voice that expresses the feeling of each song and conveys the passion and excitement of the music. The percussionists could have (and probably did) write the book on Brazilian-bossa percussion. Just exquisite. If you like this type of music, I highly recommend it. Pure gold - 10,000 Stars!
