Biography

Ronnie Milsap is an American country singer whose success in the 70s and 80s crossed over into the mainstream.

He was born with a congenital eye defect which left him blind and resulted him being place in the State School for the Blind in Raleigh, North Carolina. It was there that his musical skills were noticed and nurtured. By the 1960s he was a member of J.J. Cale's band. His first solo release… Read more in Amazon's Ronnie Milsap Store

5.0 out of 5 stars A rare example of re-recordings bettering the originals, July 28, 2001
By
This review is from: Sings His Best Hits for Capitol Records (Audio CD)
Like Roy Orbison, whose voice did not deteriorate over time, Ronnie Milsap's 1996 re-recordings of his 70s and 80s greatest hits is a quality release, presenting a singer still at his peak. For a performer with 40 country number one singles, Milsap is still relatively unappreciated. Yet his voice is among the greatest in music: capable of a variety of styles, with a tremendous vocal range. The recording of It Was Almost Like A Song on this CD is awesome in its thundering, almost-operatic finale. On a lighter note, Snap Your Fingers is an example of Milsap's playfulness - a supremely confident performance that is pure fun (listen to the final line he includes, not sung in the original hit version, as Milsap sings "look out old Milsap is back" in a great Mack The Knife take-off). While a new studio album of original material is awaited, a CD re-issue of his 1976 live in concert album is long overdue.

5.0 out of 5 stars Impressive Re-recordings, January 16, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sings His Best Hits for Capitol Records (Audio CD)
This is an album of re-recorded material of some of his best. That means that you should not go into this cd expecting the originals. Any Day Now, Please Don't Tell Me How The Story Ends, and I Wouldn't Have Missed It For The World have been rejected in favor of Snap Your Fingers, Daydreams About Night Things, and Button Off My Shirt. However, it's still impressive! There are differences in each track! Stranger In My House is more upbeat and actually has an ending! It Was Almost Like A Song, a favorite song by Ronnie Milsap, features him being more independent on the final note and holding it even longer! If you think that noone over fifty years old(now sixty-six years old;happy birthday!)can hold the final note any longer than they had, just listen to it, and prepare to be overwhelmed! Daydreams About Night Things and Pure Love, both more favorites by him, are more upbeat. Smoky Mountain Rain and Lost In The Fifties Tonight are even longer; the former has more easy to spot differences. Button Off My Shirt has a different intro, and it's also on youtube! There's No Getting Over Me has different vocals and slightly different instrumentality, but other than that, what other difference is there? Is it the only track on here that ever got any radio airplay? The most easily reconized differences on here are on track three, Snap Your Fingers. Different instrumentality, different vocals, slightly changed lyrics, and a different ending are spelled out here. Fingers don't snap like they used to, and the words, "Look out, old Milsap is back!" are included. Before you buy this, get all the original recordings first, then do anything to get back again!
