5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best Ennio Morricone interpretations., July 9, 1999

I'm familiar with this recording for over 20 years now, since it first came out on LP. Mireille Mathieu uses her voice expressively like an instrument and the orchestral instrumentation is very subtle. It is not important to understand the French and Italian lyrics, because they are not particularly good, but the sound of these languages compliment Morricone's music perfectly. I'm thrilled to have found this CD at Amazon.com because my LP is very scratched already and I have been looking for years for a CD copy of this recording.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful instrumentals with one of the best in the world!, February 13, 2001

Mireille Mathieu has really outdone herself on this CD. Her beautiful voice is richly challenged in this assort- ment of unusually haunting melodies by Ennio Morricone. I especially liked the instrumentals in Da quel Sorriso che non ride piu. This CD is excellent because it highlights Mireilles tremendous voice range and passion!

Mireille Mathieu has one of the most beautiful and powerful voices ever. She is a genuine French singer who sings with great strength & Passion. Here on this album, Mathieu sings songs written by the unique Ennio Morricone, the songs are filled with haunting emotion, each track is very interesting and holds special meaning. Listen to it! IT's truly a work of art...

I have been a fan of Mireille Mathieu for over thirty years.
Everything she does she excells, but this album must truley be the jewel in the crown.
From 'Un jour tu reviendras' to 'Melodie', its sheer listening pleasure. The range of her unique voice, coupled with the tremendous amount of emotion that this lady can generate is typical of this French perfectionist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptional CD, likely Mireille's best album., September 27, 2008
This review is from: Sings Ennio Morricone (Audio CD)
As my title says, this is likely Mireille Mathieu's best album, whether CD or LP. What can I add to the other favorable reviews of this CD? Background is what I can add. This CD is composed of ten songs from a 1974 recording session in Rome in which Mireille sang songs composed by Enno Morricone. However, Mr. Morricone was more involved than just authoring the music; he wrote the arrangements and conducted the orchestra at these sessions. Thus, this is not just Ms. Mathieu recording Mr. Morricone's music, but is a collaboration between the singer and composer. That collaboration may be why this album is so outstanding. The album contains seven songs in French and three in Italian. Thus, both the types of songs and the languages vary in the album. As stated in other reviews, the Morricone songs challenge the impressive vocal range possessed by Ms. Mathieu. [Note: The CD titled "Canto Morricone, Vol 3" (Songs of Morricone, Vol. 3) contains four more songs from that recording session. "Nata Libera" (Naturally Free) and "Quando Verranno I Giorni" are in Italian, and "Pas vu, pas pris" (No see, no take) and Mon ami de Toujours" (My Friend from Toujours) are in French. These songs add to my admiration of that recording session. One wonders if any more treasures from that session are in the vault of some Italian recording studio. One hopes so.]

5.0 out of 5 stars MANY MEMORIES, September 4, 2009
This review is from: Sings Ennio Morricone (Audio CD)
I remember when visiting my dad Robert LeBlanc this was the album I always wanted to listen to. I have no idea what she is saying but the tone of Marielle's voice just brings one to tears. Upon the death of my dad on Sept. 11,2001 this was one of the recordings that was one that I have to had on CD although I remember just where the skip is on the record. A must have in my eyes and I LOVE YOU DAD

Ennio Morricone is well-known as a composer of scores for movies and TV; he did the music for several of Clint Eastwood's "spaghetti westerns". Mireile Mathieu is a worthy successor to Edith Piaf. My congratulations to the genius who thought to bring these two talents together.

No one has to convince me that Mireille can sing
Ennio Morricone's music. She has the most fantastic
versatile voice range I have ever heard. I have been
a fan of her singing since 1968 when I first arrived
in France for 2 years. She is the only French
singer I will ever listen to.

Delivered on time, new, for the price advertised. Couldn't ask for more.
Also, product itself was great - as other reviews predicted.

Haunting, melodic, powerful. Generations of movie and music lovers have marvelled at the work of Ennio Morricone. With the great Mireille Mathieu, the Maestro found one of the few vocalists in the world who could do justice to his music. Together, they are just magic.

Like a previous reviewer, I have listened to this album for over twenty years, and wore out my vinyl copy. If it's possible to wear out a CD, I'll probably find out with this one!

There simply aren't enough stars available to properly rate this album- If you are a Mireille M fan, you will already have a copy. If you love the Maestro, just BUY IT, and you'll find out what I mean...
