A must-have when it comes back into release,
By The Fancy One "blackprincess" (Westchester County, NY) - See all my reviews

If you're looking for some of Nat's best work with Nelson Riddle, then you're bound to find it right here. This album, originally from 1953, showcases Nat at the peak of his popularity, and he does not disappoint. Sure, there were people who lamented his pop leanings, but let's face it...Nat never sounded better than he did when backed by lush strings by Riddle and Gordon Jenkins. Each of these songs are just gorgeous and beautifully romantic and sentimental, my favorites being "This Can't Be Love" (a swing tune thrown in there for good measure), "Dinner For One Please, James", "There Will Never Be Another You", "Autumn Leaves", "Tenderly" and "A Little Street Where Old Friends Meet", "A Handful of Stars" and "There Goes My Heart"...but truthfully, everything here is outstanding. Also included are three tunes from another great Cole/Riddle collaboration, TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN (1959), "Too Much", "A Thousand Thoughts of You" and "If You Said No". With Nat King Cole, you can never go wrong. A must-have.

My All Time Favorite Nat King Cole Album,
By Gregg B. Holycross "Gregg B. Holycross" (Granger, IN USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sings for Two in Love (Audio CD)
This is the Nat King Cole album I grew up listening to. My parents bought this album when I was 6 years old and I remember begging them to play it over and over. I think I liked it even more than they did. Some of the songs on this album have become Nat Cole classics and have been reissued many times. Some of these songs, "Dinner for One Please James" or "Just A Little Street Where Old Friends Meet" are not as well known. All of the songs here are presented in Nat's incredibly smoooth delivery and Nelson Riddle's arrangements fit Nat's voice like a glove. The bonus selections added to the CD are nice, but Capitol could have issued this CD in the original 12 song format and I would have loved it just as much. Nat recorded many great albums after this one, but this one is still my very favorite

Nat King Cole is KING.,
By Andy Williamson (Chicago, IL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sings for Two in Love (Audio CD)
Nat King Cole is so smooth on this recording, and the songs are so gorgeous...I'm amazed more people have not heard this album. It is clearly one of the high points in Cole's illustrious career. Nelson Riddle, who did so much famous work with and for Frank Sinatra, lends his arranging and orchestrating skills to this doosy. This album is easily as powerful as JOHN COLTRANE WITH JOHNNY HARTMAN, and in fact I like the song selection here even better. This album is worth getting just to hear "Autumn Leaves" and "A Thousand Thoughts of You". The latter is absolutely *gorgeous* and heartbreaking. One of the best vocal jazz albums ever put to vinyl (or disc). Hopefully this will be reissued in the future for those of you who have not had the blessing of hearing it. In the meantime, trot over to you public library and see if they have it.Essential.
