A really great country record,

Country radio may have turned its back on this first-class honkytonk crooner, but hopefully his fans won't. After three decades in the business, Watson still proves himself a better singer than 95% of the competition, delivering a rock solid set of hard country heartbreak... The accompaniment is equally strong: whether you're an longtime fan or just like hearing really good country music, this is an album you oughtta check out!

Gene Watson is truely "god's gift to country music",
By Don Tolle (Cincinnati OH. USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sings (Audio CD)
A life long Gene Watson fan I have been. At the age of 25 I find myself looking for new "old" music from the icon that is Warson. Gene Watson Sings make it's way into my CD player three days ago and has not been moved sense. This album brings the true unreal quality of Gene's voice to life. What has to be considered completely different from anything Gene has recorded in recent years, Gene finds new life in a more modern type of country music. For those whom may have doubted his ability over the years. Just listen to his cover of the Craig Morgon song "When A Man Can't Get A Women Off His Mind" and you will hear what is unquestionably the greatest voice in modern music. To the Opry and Country Radio. Constant is the comment that country music has seen it's better days and if that is the case no doubt one of the reasons is because great voices like Gene Watson can't seam to find there way onto country radio. If given a chance, this CD could be successfull on a national level and would no doubt produce more than a few top 10 hits. Don L. Tolle

Gene Watson is back, sounding better than ever!,
By Jon Hensley (Western KY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sings (Audio CD)
The title says it all.. Gene Watson sings. This guy can sing a country song. There is something missing on country music radio and it's emotion and it's honesty. Good country music is missing. Gene Watson brings all the emotion and honesty to the table with his latest record, a great country record. The guy is like a Ray Price or an Elvis Presley.. his voice just gets better and better as time goes by. "When A Man Can't Get A Woman Off His Mind" is an instant classic. The tune was co-written by Bill Anderson and originally recorded by Craig Morgan, but this is clearly a song that only Gene Watson can sing.. Five stars for this record because it's very powerful, it's diverse, and there really isn't a bad song on the whole record.

This Gene Watson album is epsically good!,

WATSON HAS NEVER BEEN BETTER! You can feel the soul in his voice!
These ten tracks are as good as any of Watson's music ever! Very well done, and Very well sung. Here's a brief idea of the songs. 1. "New Woman", - His new x-wife is looking like a new woman, and it's a "Hell of a time to be her x-old man" 2. "Make sure you got it all", - As she's leaving him, he says, take one last look around before you leave, take my heart, my soul, take everything, make sure you got it all. 3. "When a man can't get a woman off his mind", - He's going crazy worring about his woman out running around. 4. "What a difference a day made", - A cover of the 1959 top ten by Dinah Washington. 5. "Just to hold her", - He's had an affair but it's long been over, then she calls him up out of the blue, and he realizes what it would cost losing the one he truely loves, if he ever gave in "Just to hold her". 6. "When she comes back", - she left him, but he's spending his time fixing everything nice for her return. He just can't accept that she won't be coming back. 7. "Smithereens" - One moment of weekness, and the love I cheated on was blown to "Smithereens". 8. "Flowers" - He wouldn't stop drinking, he never paid much attention to her, while he was driving there was an accident and she died, he finally realizes what it took for him to FINALLY bring her "Flowers". 9. "The coast of Texas", - His woman is going on a trip to Jamaica, and he worries she thinks the sands of Galveston, Texas isn't far enough away from him. 10. "Hold me" - Decribing the false strenght one gets from drinking. Some songs have quite clever lyrics, and others convey a very powerful message. This collection is a little different from the usual Watson sound, but if you generally like Gene Watson's music, you'll love this album! Manufactured by Compendia Intersound in 2003.

Every two years in this decade Gene Watson blesses us with a new CD.
It happened in 2001 with "From The Heart"; in 2003 with this beauty called "Gene Watson...sings"; in 2005 with the indredible "Then & Now" and now within a month (September 2007) "in A Perfect World". I just can't wait and I am counting the days till it'll be in my possession. One thing's for sure: each and every new release by Gene is one of the most beautiful happenings one can experience!

Sings - and the man can really sing,
By A Customer
This review is from: Sings (Audio CD)
This new album is great!! Gene's albums are all great. He sings true country - the kind that will make you cry and make you smile at the same time. He sings from the heart and it goes right to your heart. 4 Songs on this CD are outstanding - Make Sure you Got it All, When a Man Can't Get a Woman off his Mind, and the upbeat Coast of Texas is good. The remake of What a Difference a Day Made is beautiful - and Gene does a really good job on it. The other songs are good too, but these are my favorites. Gene never disappoints me and I have been a big fan for years. Gene's voice keeps getting better and this CD is great. The only thing missing is his signature song Farewall Party, which in my opinion should be on every CD. You won't be sorry you bought this one - it's a keeper and Gene sings country love ballads better than anyone. Can't say enough about it.

Get this for "What a Difference a Day Made" alone-fantastic! Could be a hit anywhere anytime, except maybe for the current place/time we find ourselves in, where "Big & Rich" actually sell "country" records! Rant off.
Highlights: Make Sure You Got it All-can't go wrong with an Anderson/Warnier song! Just to Hold Her-surprise, Gene has an amazing low end as well! Flowers-Substance abuse ballad to keep current. Hold Me-not about waht you first think. Gene is 62 or 63 now and still sings like this? Hard to believe but true-do yourself a favor and buy it!
