I am still waiting for Capitol to give Johnny Mercer his due and release a box set of everything he recorded for them. As one of the founders of Capitol, one would think they owe him, at least, that much.
This is a fine set of all songs sung and penned by Mercer. Oddly enough, I was moving my music room around and discovered the set of 78's used as the basis for the artwork used on this release, the day I saw this was coming out. Anyway, nice set, well done and informative liner notes. But, I'm still waiting for the complete Johnny Mercer on Capitol.

I grew up as a southerner and was a huge Johnny Mercer fan. The fact that he grew up in Savannah, Ga. had a lot to do with it initially. Once he hit the big time in New York and Hollywood, it proved that a southerner could be recognized and awarded for his talent and ability. At the age of 82, I continue to enjoy his work as demonstrated on this CD.
