This compilation features a slew of "standard" tunes and some traditional pieces performed by someone who is anything but standard or tradional. Nina Simone is exceptional. If this was just about the performances herein, this would easily qualify as a five star CD.

That being said, the mixing on some songs is bad (Summertime for example), and should have been corrected before putting this CD together. Some of the songs are available on other, better, CDs and so duplicate those selections. The liner notes are non-existant, so we really don't know when the original recordings were made, or who is playing along side Nina, etc.

Highly recommended because of Nina.
