Ted Keegan is the best kept secret in America.,
By
This review is from: Sings (Audio CD)
I have seen "Phantom of the Opera" three times, one of them on Broadway, and Keegan is far and away the best. His "Music of the Night" on this CD is emotional and perfectly captures his portrayal of the Phantom - even without the full orchestra behind him. He's a man in love, not a fighter. His emotional connection with the audience was extraordinary - something very rarely seen in musical theatre. This CD is imaginative, powerful, creative, and melodic. When it's over, you want more. And if you're in a city where he's performing in concert, go see him. He really is the best kept secret in American musical theatre.

The best CD you'll ever own!!,

After waiting over a decade to see "The Phantom of the Opera," I got to see it on 1/3/03, with Ted Keegan as the Phantom. He did not disappoint; he is an incredible performer! I purchased this CD before the show, and it was one of the best purchases I have ever made. It is my favorite CD, especially since my copy is autographed and personalized <g>. Ted has an amazing voice, and has really mastered these tunes. He can sing so quietly that he draws you right in, but also has the ability to belt the lyrics out when the time is right. His smooth, silky voice can melt you (as well as his charm and charisma can when you spend time with him) in a minute. I was pleasantly surprised to find the old Irish classic "Danny Boy" (the unlisted 14th track); as with the others, Ted did a wonderful job on this song. His voice is incredible, I just can't say this enough. "Sara Lee" is such a light, fun tune, and Ted sounds like he had a great time recording this. There is so much emotion coming from the songs, you're sure to love this CD. Ted's rendition of "Music of the Night" is like no other, in my opinion, even better than Michael Crawford. I listen to this CD everywhere - I even like to turn the volume down and let Ted's voice lull me to sleep. I can't wait for his next CD to be released. Buy this CD, you won't be sorry!

Omigosh, WOW!,
A Kid's Review

Okay, I first saw Ted as the Phantom. I had never seen the show before, but he was awesome. When I got home, I begged to get the cd. I knew it would be awesome. I went to Ted's website, and I emailed him. I was amazed when he emailed me back. I've gotten several emails from him, but haven't spoken with him lately. This cd has many well known songs that are brought to life when he sings them. Music of the Night, is my favorite track, and it just sends shivers down your spine when you hear it. I just love the way he makes it sound, well I don't know what the word is that I want to use, I'm not sure if evil would be a good word. He makes it sound "phantom like." I believe that you will definitley enjoy this CD if you like Theatre, or if you like smooth melodies! Enjoy!

Amazing in every way,

I saw Ted Keegan perform for the first time not long ago and though I had seen the Phantom before his performance will always stand out. By the time intermission rolled around I knew Ted was incredibly talented, the entire way home I found myself reading and rereading his biography. I ordered his CD that very night and when I played it I was not disapointed. The CD is an true testiment to his talent, with the minimal backround you can really hear the depth and range in his voice. Any man who can get me to listen to a song like Sara Lee must have alot of talent and then right after to make me cry with Kiss Her Now WOW! All in all I wonderful CD the only thing lacking is a.... bad song!

Ted Keegan... sigh... What a voice!,

Hello, I HIGHLY recomend this album to anyone and everyone who likes musical theatre of ANY kind. Mr. Keegan has one the the most astounding voices in musical Theatre to this date. His voice is filled with such color and emotion, that you even feel like you could reach out and touch it. He also chose some magnificent songs that really concentrate on his voice instead of the acompaniment on this CD, which is really interesting. And that just goes to show that Ted sounds just as good WITH a 30 piece orchestra behind him as well as simply a piano! Well, I hope you will buy the wonderful arangement of songs sung by this current 'Phantom' on the Music Box touring company. (If you didn't already know) That reminds me... (I'll do a little bit of promotion now) Go see Phantom of the Opera when it comes near you! You will never forget the experience of this cast! From Ted Keegan all the way to the last chorus memeber this cast is the best! *stepping off of soapbox now* Okay, I hope this helped you make your decision on whether or not to buy this CD. I think it's quite odvious what MY opinion is, and I hope you'll take my word for it. :-)

I, like many other of the reviewers for this album, first saw Ted as the Phantom. He has an amazing vocal ablity. I get all lightheaded just think about him singing. Add on to that that he's the nicest guy you could ever meet and you got yourself a great combination. This CD is a must!

The only reason why I didn't give this CD a 1 star is because Ted can hit the high notes, clear and true, just like his teacher taught him, which is something that cannot be said of all pretenders to the Phantom role. But that's about the only positive thing I can say about this CD. It isn't even that he is monotonous. He isn't. He tries to vary his voice and put what he thinks is emotion into his delivery but it just doesn't come through. To me he sounds like fingernails scratching on a chalk board. OUCH!
And his song choice for the most part are poor. A song dedicated to Sara Lee cakes? How lame can you get! The samples on this page sound halfway decent, which is what induced me to buy it but he sounds a lot worse when you hear the whole song. I am glad I bought a used copy so that way I am only half as sorry as if I had purchased it full price. If you want to hear a beautiful Phantom voice buy the London cast album and listen to Michael Crawford. He is the BEST. Or buy Davis Gaines' "Against the Tide" or Michael Ball's Broadway album or Anthony Warlow's "Centre Stage" (great) or even Ethan Freeman's solo album if you can find it. Those are Phantoms worth listening to. Keegan?... Save your money. |
