This review is from: Sinister Woods - Dungeon Tiles: Dungeon Tile Set DU5 (4th Edition D&D) (Board book)
This pack includes 30 two-sided tiles of various sizes. "Sinister Woods" tells only half the story. One side of each tile is covered with trees and a grassy clearing; the other square gray pavers with walls and other features. The set adapts to underground settings rather well. The raised platform with the statues is destined to become a room in many future dungeons! The grassy areas can pass for a green marble or some other solid stone, and of course all the stone paved areas will fit right in. Those with a good imagination could even see the trees as some type of cavern fungus or lichen, so this set can blend nicely with others, like
Lost Caverns of the Underdark: Dungeon Tiles 5 ("Dungeons & Dragons") (No. 5). One good thing about this set is the lack of corpses or bones strewn about. The DM knows where the bodies are buried (or not)! The wall pieces are very dark and could stand in for pits, chasms or cliff edges. So without further ado, here's the loot!

Mapping Tiles - Can't Have Enough Variety, November 20, 2009
This review is from: Sinister Woods - Dungeon Tiles: Dungeon Tile Set DU5 (4th Edition D&D) (Board book)
Sinister woods is the 5 set of dungeon tiles in the second series, and like the previous sets is a solid product for any role playing game (not just DnD!) that takes advantage of physical placement in it's game mechanics. As the title suggests it is focused on wooded tiles, with some grass lands and built features thrown in. I personally liked the ruins printed in this set. I used them almost immediately in my gaming group, and everyone at the table loves to see new professional maps and mapping products. You get six thick card stock pages, with various size pieces, an almost water resistant finish (haven't had to test this yet), and a sample encounter area printed on the inside of the paper jacket. You will need to buy multiple copies of this product if you want to create large and complex layouts, but since they are generic you are investing in a multi game product. Once again, a solid gaming product, and we should all applaud Wizards of the Coast for making these kinds of products that are cheap and easy to incorporate in our games, no matter what the system.

Most useful of all the sets., March 10, 2010
This review is from: Sinister Woods - Dungeon Tiles: Dungeon Tile Set DU5 (4th Edition D&D) (Board book)
Well, we know how these "tiles" go- yes, you can use them, but they rarely match up to your dungeon. I have fun using them, as I don't mind making up stuff off the cuff to go with the graphics, but other DMs get a little annoyed as the corridors don't go exactly right, and the players always expect the graphics to mean something.
But all DMs have to do the tried and true overland random encounters, and these tiles are perfect for this. Much better than drawing tree after tree or trying to figure out what shots are blocked, what targets have cover, and what terrain is "difficult".
Not just for 4th Ed- 3rd Ed can use these just fine. In fact- useful for any RPG - as long as you don't need hexes!
