Editorial Reviews

Judi Donaghy (featured vocalist) started her musical career in the seventies as a folk/pop singer, moved into the eighties with a bachelor's degree in Opera/Musical Theater from the University of Nebraska, and now is heard regularly in the Twin Cities as a Jazz Vocalist. The Wolverines Quartet are director/drummer Brett Forberg, pianist Rick Carlson, bassist Terry Burns, and saxophonist Doug Haining. A smaller version of the Wolverines Classic Jazz Orchestra, they have a 25 year history of success in the Twin CIties and across the Nation. This CD emulates the Ellington/Basie style of pure swing. Recorded live in the studio, the connection between artists is clear, the message strong, and the result - Swangin'! Tracks: Emitremmus (4:14) Harlem Nocturne (7:40) A Kiss From You (5:19) A Lovely Night (3:22) The Girls of Summer (4:36) Such Sweet Thunder (4:21) (Not That) South of the Border (4:26) I Ain't Got Nothin' But the Blues (6:36) Sentimental Star (6:30) Love For Sale (6:05) I'll Be Seeing You (3:15)

I've known Judy as a performer in the Twin Cities for many years. She's one of the best voices in the midwest, in my own humble opinion. This is one of my favorite albumns in my entire collection. Judy has a beautiful, somewhat haunting voice, sultry, and full of soul. Exactly what you're looking for in a jazz vocalist. Paired with Rick Carlson on this album as the pianist for The Wolverines, his Count Basie style of playing, and Judy's voice, make for a neck hair standing on end rendition of "I'll Be Seeing You." "Harlem Nocturne", "A Lovely Night", "Girls of Summer", and "I Ain't Got Nothin' But the Blues" are all highlights on this album.

Any serious jazz lover would appreciate this album.

To me, Judi is the best. What an instrument! What a voice. "A Lovely Night" contains some classic text from Cinderella narrative (IF you can keep up!). Wonderful.

A female jazz vocalist, a really good one, is a rare commodity. To me, Judi is #1 against which all others must compare, simply marvelous in every respect.

Absolutely the hottest version of "Harlem Nocturne" to be found. Bought the album for that cut alone.

Judi really swings it. A superb voice. A great match with the Wolverines.
