A must read for all Titanic Buffs!,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Sinking of the Titanic (Paperback)
This book is an abridged edition of the Logan Marshall volume that was the very first book to roll off the presses after the Titanic sank. Although some of the details are incorrect, most of the facts are true and the first-hand accounts from survivors at the time are fantastic! The coal-fire on the Titanic is discussed in great detail and and many other important facts which have been ignored by more contemporary sources are also illuminated. With 16 pages of 1912 photos and wonderful descriptions, I found this narrative to be a good beginning for all those interested in the saga of the Titanic.

Best Titanic Book I've Ever Read!,

I really enjoyed this book. The authors descriptions bring the tragedy to life. The idea that the Titanic was on fire before it left England fascinated me. I've read more than 20 books about the Titanic, and I think this one is the best!

Melodramatic, but interesting to see the 1912 perspective,
By Christine Landaker "Teacher and book addict" (Boston, Massachusetts) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Sinking of the Titanic (Paperback)
I picked up Marshall's book after reading other reader's reviews on Amazon, impressed by how glowing they were. I must say I was a bit disappointed. While the book certainly is dramatic, it has many incorrect facts about the ship, as well as the sinking. I did enjoy finding out how the disaster was looked at by some during 1912, but the writing was too "flowery" (symptomatic of the times), and some of the errors were jolting. All in all, it's a good book to have if you're a Titanic buff, but if you're looking for a single book to fill you in on the disaster, this would probably not be your best choice. (For a detailed, well researched account, I would go with the old standby, Walter Lord's "A Night to Remember".)

A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Sinking of the Titanic (Paperback)
I bought this book when a temporary Titanic exibit came to the city where I live. I met the editor and had him sign my copy. When I got home and read it I discovered many interesting facts about the Titanic that even I didn't know. This book is filled with lots of true life stories about the disaster. Anyone who is interested in the Titanic just a tiny bit MUST read this book!!

Dramatic, Emotional Titanic Book,
By blueboy@scn.org (Seattle) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Sinking of the Titanic (Paperback)
Part way through the book I found myself thinking, 'Gee, I hope they can save the Titanic'! Told mostly from first-hand accounts of survivors, this is an engrossing read, and Marshall pulls off a nice bit of imagery about the way the sea looked after the tragedy.

This original book just keeps getting better as Bruce Caplan took Logan Marshall's work and expanded on it. The fire burning in the ship and the dynamics of the effect of the heat on the ship's hull makes for a great mystery within a disaster. I read this book after hearing a lecture by the author who took an old story and brought it to life in today's terms and in fact, the lecture was given, in all places, on a cruise ship while we were hundreds of miles from land. After listening to the lecture I was careful to inspect the lifeboats and figure out where they kept the lifejackets. I can't wait to get this book on my Kindle.

This review is from: The Sinking of the Titanic (Paperback)
I have just recently traveled to Nova Scotia and wanted to visit the site of this tragic catastrophe. A friend of mine told me about the book, and I went ahead and purchased it. I found this book fascinating, very detailing and extremely well written. Mr. Caplan did a fantastic job in researching this subject, in spite of the time that has gone by. I would recommend this book to any person that would be interested in history.

This book is chilling because it is written breathlessly by people who lived through the horrors and experienced the shocking news. This was written before television could relay the ghastly details minute by minute. This was how people were informed about this disaster. I'm wondering what this original edition of the book is worth, I found it on my mother's book shelf, it belonged to my great grandfather.

This book is great! I would strongly recomend a lot of you onliners to read it. If you ever had to do reserch on the real titanic, this is the book to have. In this book you can compare the pictures from the real Titanic to the Titanic that James Cameron had built for the movie. And the great thing about this book is because it gives you a lot of facts about the Titanic. This book tells you about the passangers, and how they got a long so thats why I would strongly recomend you onliners to read this exciting book about the mighty Titanic.
