Live, longer version...., August 16, 2005
This review is from: Sinking of Titanic (Audio CD)
This is a live version, recored in France by The GB Ensemble in 1990 in a water tower that was converted to a 'hall' no less! It clocks in at 60 minutes, 19 seconds, making it longer than the other versions (at least when the liner notes were printed!). As far as the composition goes, I pretty much agree with the reviews here on Amazon of the version out on the Philips label.
The sound quality is nice and spooky and serves the composition very well. It seems a little dark and deficient in the highs, and then there's an event with some cymbals that come through just fine. I don't have the Philips recording to compare it to, and I can't find my 70's era lp , so I can't make any comparisions.
One annoyance: it only has 1 track-you can't jump around if you want.
