Awesome,
This review is from: Sinners Never Sleep (Urban Soul) (Mass Market Paperback)
It was wonderful to continue seeing what Rayanne endured and to read this sequel to her life was great, I am not a person that read sequels that much, unless the first book was so great which it was that I bought both. Now I did not buy when first were written because did not know of author but was introduced to author from a book review site that I am a member of and this was an awesomeread now I know about Leigh McKnight I will have to always look for her books.

I am Evelyn McKnight and I don't know why I am just rating this book, Sinners Never Sleep, the sequel to From My Front Porch. This is an excellent story. I was really happy to see how Rayanne Wilson's journey ended. The story is wonderful, the characters are colorful and full of life and you will not want to put this book down. It is just that good. We are proud of you Minnie/Leigh. You are a wonderful novelist and the best sister. Keep these good books coming.

This page turner takes you from the Big Apple to the Palmetto State. It's all about the journey of Rayanne Wilson. Her relationship with Ralph is going okay until she has to return home to handle family matters which cause her to have to stay. The distance brings friction in her relationship, and meeting Scott Christopher, confuses her more. She's force to make decisions between the North and South. Leigh McKnight keeps your attention from beginning to end. One novel to add to your next read.

Life Happened,

This review is from: Sinners Never Sleep (Urban Soul) (Mass Market Paperback)
Rayanne Wilson is a successful playwright in New York and is in love with her boyfriend, Ralph. Things are smooth sailing for Rayanne, until she receives word from her family in South Carolina that her father is ill. She momentarily leaves her life in New York behind and returns to her hometown to help care for her father. Once there, she notices a change in her relationship with Ralph and questions if the distance is too much for them to withstand. Her life is further complicated when both her parents die and she has to stay in South Carolina to take care of their affairs. When she can't take another blow she meets the charming, Scott Christopher. He offers her his shoulder to lean on and his protective strong arms to hold her. She's soon faced with deciding whether to stay in his arms in South Carolina, or returning to her life in New York. A web of lies, betrayal, forgiveness and new beginnings is the story Leigh McKnight spins in SINNERS NEVER SLEEP. Her storytelling grabbed my attention the moment I began reading until the very end. She offered valuable life lessons as she descriptively portrayed Rayanne's trials and tribulations. Reviewed by Jaime L. Lincoln of The RAWSISTAZ(tm) Reviewers

An Intergenerational Story of Family, Friends, and Loyalty,
By Maxine Thompson (California, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sinners Never Sleep (Urban Soul) (Mass Market Paperback)
Sinners Never Sleep is a layered story about family, friends, and loyalty. It follows the journey of protagonist Rayanne Wilson's life from living large as a renown New York playwright, to coming home to a small town in South Carolina. She moved back home to help with her aging parents. Once there, Rayanne's life becomes enmeshed in other family problems. She even becomes a foster parent to her teen nephew and his infant daughter. The portrait of people moving back home from the North to the South is timely. In the early twentieth century, there was an exodus of African Americans to the North, but, ironically, in the twenty-first century, many Blacks have relocated back to the South, where their roots started out. Ms. McKnight's theme is you can always go back home, but at what cost? Although this is a woman's story, it is reminiscent of "Soul Food," with its many family problems and inter-generational conflicts that were raised. The sexual tension between Rayanne and Scott was played out in an interesting way, as well as the delay of the relationship's consummation. As a reader, I kept rooting for their relationship, although she was the older woman. I kept wondering when Rayanne would wake up, and see the good man right under her nose. The dividing issue of drugs vs. legitimate money was a contemporary theme, and added to the story's social consciousness. I found Rayanne's speech at the high school about today's senseless violence to be very moving. In fact, Rayanne's involvement in the community, and her giving back, showed her in a proactive light, because at points in the story, she seemed to be a victim of her circumstances. Once she took back control of her life, she really came out on top. This made Rayanne heroic as a protagonist, which added to the book's overall quality. At the end, when the older women of the community pushed back and beat the drug dealer out the neighborhood, then ran him out, it sent a socially redeeming message. That we can take back our streets. This story deals with contemporary issues such as alcoholism, teenaged parenthood, foster parenting, older-woman/younger-man relationships, drugs in the Black community, divorce, elder abuse, sibling rivalry, friendship, betrayal, forgiveness, and inter-generational problems of the old versus the new. "Sinners Never Sleep" raises questions about success and how it has a personal definition for each person. As a reader, you will be drawn into the lives of the characters, such as Maxine, Brenda, Jeremy, Swan, Josh, Aunt Bessie, and others. This is a feel good, homespun tale that you will love to read over and over. Good job, Leigh McKnight.

I enjoyed this book just like the first book. I felt attached to this story because my mom was born in Sumter, SC. I think people can learn from Rayanne, she put her dreams on the side to go back home when she was needed. Great book..........waiting for the next one. Keep up the good work and may God continue to bless you.

LIVE THE PASSION,

This work had my attention from it's title alone: "SINNERS NEVR SLEEP"! Being familiar with Ms McKnight's work this was a MUST read for me. Being the die hard romantic that I am I got exactly what I was looking for in this soul stirring novel. This is a teasingly, tasteful slice of life that could happen to you, me (or Ms McKnight/Dix)I wonder...hmmmm. Her powerful descriptive style captures not only the physical surroundings but imprisons the full RAW EMOTIONS of her characters. This is the one we have been waiting for Ms Dix---the extention of "FROM MY FRONT PORCH". SINNERS let me LIVE THE PASSION!!!
