Good Budget Meter,

This is an acceptable multimeter and will service most peoples needs. Obviously you are not going to compare this to a Fluke multimeter, but for the price vs accuracy it is a decent multimeter. I have (2) of these and use them for general use where 100% accuracy is not critical. If you want better tolerances then you are going to have to spend a lot more than what the Mastech MS8268 is offering.
With that said, the unit is somewhat large which may be better for some people. It has a nice large LCD display that is backlit if needed. The plastic casing itself is pretty rugged and the selector dial feels solid when you rotate the dial. Autoranging is nice and I really like the LED blinking terminal feature that displays which correct terminals to use depending on what function you have selected. As one of the previous reviewers stated this unit does not come with (3) AAA batteries. I like this MS8268 unit and believe most people that need a decent affordable multimeter can't go wrong for the price on this one.

In general, this is a great device for this cost range. It has all features required for daily usage. Description of multimeter can be found in internet. Here are some specific features:
- In any range two terminals to be used are illuminated with red LEDs (see foto). LED is swithed off when lead is pushed into terminal. If lead is pushed into wrong terminal for this range then correct terminal blinks and beeps. - Automatic range; manual range selection with button. - Wide set of ranges, including 400.0 mV and 400.0 uA - Relative measurements and display hold. White backlight (5 seconds) - Resettable fuse for current ranges (non-resettable for 10A range) - Display data refresh: 3 per second. Imperfection: - Frequency measurement accuracy is low: 2% - In accordance with manual, package must contain "Special Multi-Function socket" (required for hFE measurement). There was no such device in my package.

Insuperable Multimeter quality at this price range...,

Excellent multimeter, with nice accuracy for this price... Need more accuracy?? go for a fluke at several hundreds $$$ more... Autoranging it's a very nice option for fast readings between several ranges... It doesn't feel cheap at all, and i liked the green color... Large and clear readout, with a nice backlight option... In opposite with another reviewer, i got the "multi-function socket" for hFE measurement... Very happy with the device... Works with 3 AAA batteries (not supplied)...

Push probe leads firmly in socket,

I thought my unit was faulty because I didn't get flashing lights or buzzer when using the wrong sockets, and the LEDs didn't go out when the leads were plugged in. Just before calling for service I found I had not been pushing the leads firmly into the sockets. They stop when only half-way in, making it feel like you've made a firm connection.
Once the horizontal strain relief is flush with the meter's surface the warnings came on. Now I love this meter. Only other minor complaint is the black rubber grip is a little loose, but that's only cosmetic. Overall, great value for money.

Good budget meter,
This review is from: Sinometer AC/DC Auto/Manual Range Digital Multimeter, MS8268
The unit I received was actually Sinometer but I knew beforehand that ShenZhen sells Chinese made multimeters under many brands, Mastech, Sinometer, etc. This meter is very complete with capacitor and transistor tests, my unit did come with the multifunction adapter for both of those tests. The unique features of this multimeter are the light-up feature that illuminates the sockets that need to be used for a certain test and the rugged plastic surrounding it. The rubber surrounding the meter feels a bit thin on the top part but for the price that is to be expected. So far my only gripe is that when turning the knob from off to any other position the meter does not turn on, so you have to set it to off, and move the knob again.

I've been getting back into electronics and I needed a more modern meter that has capacitance and frequency measuring abilities in addition to the usual Voltage, Amperage, Resistance, etc. I haven't shopped for a meter in about 15 years, so after reading up a bit I found this one to have all the features I needed and it was very inexpensive. The quality is good, comparing favorably with some other VOM's I have lying around. It included an adapter for measuring transistor hFE which was not mentioned in the description and is a nice bonus. The only negative is that the continuity test buzzer is pretty quiet and might be hard to hear in some environments. Overall, I'm extremely pleased with this meter.

I failed to check all functions on my new meter when I got it. I had occasion to use the DC Voltage after about 6 months. It read 53 volts on a car battery. A AA battery reads over 8 volts, and a few millivolts with the leads reversed.
Amazon supplied me with the contact info for the manufacturer, and said that it was up to the mfgr to resolve the issue. I have been waiting for a reply from them for over three weeks. If you buy from Mastech, make sure you check all ranges immediately.. Sinometer AC/DC Auto/Manual Range Digital Multimeter, MS8268

I ordered this for use at work, to help with building a small circuit board. I'm used to Fluke meters, but couldn't justify the cost at our budget conscious start-up - especially for just measuring DC voltage between 0-5V and resistance on a work bench.
I already had a really crappy $12 meter that was not auto-ranging and also wildly inaccurate, which just was not cutting it for me. This meter exceeded my expectations. Accurate, auto-range worked great, fast, easy to read display, auto-shut off, and a great bargain compared to a Fluke!

I love it. It's easy to use, and works perfectlyl. Just make sure to insert the cables into the box ALL the way. When you first try to plug them in, they'll come to a stop. Push past the stop, and the plugs will go another 1/4" inch or so, and it'll feel just right. You'll know when its in all the way. Also, there's both an audio beep, as well as a visual flash when switching to Ammeter mode, if you have the red lead plugged into the wrong port the bottom for the setting you've got it at. For someone who's spend 5 minutes reading about the proper use of a Multimeter, this this is idiot proof. Build quality is pretty nice too.
