Good power, low price,

Great price for a 60W iron, cheapest I could find. Does its job well enough, even though it smokes a little sometimes from between the tip and barrel (it did this before I first used solder, so it's really the iron that is smoking, but it's really minimal).

Great price but not hot enough for lead-free project,

I'll still keep this iron. I suppose I could use it to assist in dual iron, 60/40-base desoldering of bad capacitors. It easily puts out heat for lead-containing solder.
It didn't put out enough heat to remove bad caps from a lead-free iMac G5 motherboard. I thought the 60 watts rating would do the job. I'm a bit disappointed, but this iron was inexpensive/free ship/within a larger order. I'll check out on the web what others have used to get the job done.

Great value for 60w soldering iron,
This review is from: Sinometer 60 Watts Soldering Iron, UL listed (Misc.)
If you need a cheap soldering iron for soldering large electronic connections, look no further. This thing gets as hot as I expected and works great on those large connections that a 35w iron can't handle. It comes with one fairly large tip, though anything requiring a smaller tip should likely be using a lower-power soldering iron. Best value on a 60w iron you can get!

At 60w, this is a seriously efficient soldering iron, especially if you're used to 15-30'sl. I've already melted the crap out of bits of chassis etc from only brief accidental contact with the shaft that holds the tip. It's ready to use in about a minute and stays very hot for a long time after turing off. I use a homemade power switch so I don't risk yanking it around while unplugging. The holder that comes with it is lame - get a new one if your a serious soldier. She's a scorcher.

I bought this soldering iron because I make hairbows for my little girl and it does a wonderful job of cutting the ribbon while sealing the edge. It heats up really quickly and works great, plus it was very reasonably priced. I am very happy with it.

Was looking for a garden variety soldering pencil and the relatively high heat for this one was not a problem as I am a very experienced solderer. I've used this a few times and it seems to fill the bill perfectly.

This product offers enough electrical resistance to tackle any job. On the down side handle is a little bit bulky. Overall solid product.

Decent Iron for occasional use, the "stand" is very flimsy,

The unit is fine but the stand is a flimsy strip of thin metal weaker than a paperclip - unstable and easily tipped over with the slightest tension from the electric cord. However, the price is right and this unit is fine for occasional use where you need the extra watts. Just beware of the instability of the so called stand.

Thing works great. Gets very hot though. How Hot? Well the tip glows red in the sunlight. Sadly it gets hot enough to melt the head that ships with it.
After I replaced the head its been a great soldering gun. I use it almost every single day and it hasn't let me down. Only knocked off one star because the tip it shipped with was trash. |
