Questionable quality control detracts from a very useful product.,

This review is from: Sinometer 5-in-1 multimeter Lux, Sound Level, Humidity,Temperature, MS8209 (Misc.)
The combination of these various meters into a single unit is a great idea. The ability to connect a range of high-quality thermocouples (a low quality, but usable one is even included) makes for a truly useful thermometer while the auto-ranging multimeter easily covered all my electrical testing needs. This combination alone has proven very useful for systems testing on computer components. The sound-pressure and light meters are handy on their own for other hobbies: houseplants and stereo systems in my case. The ability to have all this functionality in a single unit reduces clutter, complexity, and hassle.
However, the first unit I received had significant accuracy issues. As much as 15% variance with light, sound and temperature compared to my calibrated tools. It also showed some variance with electrical measurements. I don't have calibrated tools for those measurements, but consecutive tests on the same object showed 5% or greater variance. An internet search turned up a number of complaints for this unit regarding low accuracy/consistency and particularly variance in accuracy between units. Since 15% variance made my unit practically useless I returned it. The seller was less than supportive, but Amazon was great... stepping in and resolving the matter to my satisfaction very quickly. My second unit was somewhat better though still not what I'd call an "accurate meter." Its performance was more in line with what others seem to be experiencing so I was satisfied. Overall this product would be far more useful if it was more accurate, even at this low price point I think it reasonable to expect somewhat better performance than this unit provides. Still, working ones are usable assuming you are aware of the error margin and seperate meters, though likely be more accurate, will almost certainly be more expensive and harder ot carry! My personal experience is limited to one bad and one usable meter, but based on comments I've read online, my feeling is that variance among units makes it a bit of a gamble whether you'll receive a good unit or not. Only order this from a seller you trust to replace it!

First time I used it, to measure frequency on a motor, stopped working after a few minutes. "Low battery" indicator appeared, but stayed on after installing a new battery (checked the battery, had full voltage). Needed to finish repairing that generator, so I discarded the multimeter and ordered a different one.

Very complete,
This review is from: Sinometer 5-in-1 multimeter Lux, Sound Level, Humidity,Temperature, MS8209 (Misc.)
I actually bought it to measure the sound level, as I was fighting with a supplier about the sound level of the dishwasher which they claimed was normal but actually was 20dB over the specs. Using this multimeter I was able to prove to them they were wrong and they had it repaired. Hence the 5 stars :-)
I am unsure about the exactness of the results, but for me it does the job perfectly. One thing though: the manual is a bit 'chinese english'. But for me it works fine and is very userfriendly and rather well built for the price! I am sure that there are better devices with better results for the individual metering elements, but this one does it all, for a good price. |
