Written by a management consultant with many years of experience working with chief executive officers, this little book brings the foibles of these leaders of industry up close and personal. At only 144 pages, it's a fast and funny read that kept me smiling.

Being a CEO is about being responsible, honest and willing to take risks. Sadly, this is not always the case and leaders make terrible mistakes. Politicians like Elliott Spitzer and Anthony Weiner forget that they are in the public eye and that their behavior is transparent to the world. Others, in various corporations, are just plain clueless about the actual objectives of their organization and have unclear objectives that don't work. Constantly, the writer pokes fun at expensive off-site meetings which nobody enjoys and which are a complete waste of time and energy for all concerned.

There is nothing really new in this book. Basically it's common sense packaged in an easy breezy way. But if only a few of Mr. Moran's suggestions were really implemented, it would lead to a more positive business environment.

At first I thought this book would only apply to CEOs, but I see now that it is completely relevant to professionals at all levels and even to leaders outside of the workplace. I especially like the idea of using the CEO title as a metaphor for everyone to think of themselves as the leader of their own life. Sins and CEOs points out the importance of taking personal responsibility for ethical decision making because each one of us has an impact on the people in our professional and personal lives. The kind of impact, whether it positive or negative and whether it lifts someone up or tears them down, is largely up to us and we should be very mindful of this everyday.

This book was something of a learning experience for me. I loved each and every story, each one had numerous lessons to take note of. What stood out for me the most was the topic of 'delivery' and how important it is in a ever changing business environment. The authors raw honesty is what really makes this a must read!

I am skeptical of leadership books because they lock you into a model or framework and the world doesn't work that way. I was delighted to read Rich Moran work in Sins and CEO/s. He is a unique business journalist sharing his life experiences and salient nuggets of insights from 25 years as an advisor to corporate executives. He has worked from the shop floor to the board room and offers the most uncommon advice jumps off the page. Common sense needs to be common practice. Making decisions, getting in the middle of scrum, are not easy for any one to do. But unless CEO's and business leaders take to heart the advice and applications of this book, the stories of Dilbert in America business will continue to ring continually true. Simple insights are offered here, I think everyone involved in business leadership can get a lot from this contribution.

Richard Moran's book is valuable for any CEO, for anyone who works for or is thinking about working for an organization led by a CEO, or for anyone who's in charge of anything, including their own life. In other words, everyone! If you're a leader of any kind, then read this provocative book and think about your own behavior. If you're open-minded and objective, then you'll find at least 2 or 3 ways to become a better leader. If you're considering joining an organization, then use the lessons of this book to assess the leader and your own future prospects for success and happiness in that organization. And the best part is - this book is not only good for you, but easy, fun, and fast to read. Not academic, but chalk full of anecdotes, humor, and practical advice.
