"Readers can always count on Mason for fast-paced, exciting adventures with detailed historical backdrops that showcase sizzling passion and steamy love scenes."—RT Book Reviews

ABDUCTION

Never had Elspeth Stewart imagined her wedding would be interrupted by a dark-haired stranger charging in on a black stallion, scooping her into his arms, and carrying her off across the wild Scottish highlands. Pressed against his hard chest and nestled between his strong thighs, she ought to have feared for her life. But her captor silenced all protests with a soul-searing kiss, giving Elspeth a glimpse of the pain behind his passion—a pain only she could ease.

OBSESSION

"Mad Rob" MacLaren thought stealing his rival's bride-to-be was the perfect revenge. But Rob never reckoned that this beautiful, innocent lass would awaken the part of him he thought dead and buried with his wife. Against all reason, he longed to introduce the luscious Elspeth to the pleasures of the flesh, to make her his, and only his, forever.

With two clans against them burning for battle, they must find a way to join together—body, breath, and soul. Or both will be made to pay for the... SINS OF THE HIGHLANDER

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing January 21, 2012
By K.Sie
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I can only assume that most of the reviewers have never read a Connie Mason novel. I don't know if it is because she is now writing with a partner, or if Connie Mason has lost her passion for writing, but this book is a real let-down. I don't usually read romance novels, but I have made sure to read all of Connie's. I used to really look forward to the next one, but I have strong doubts that I will read any more of these partners' works.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not impressed March 25, 2012
By lynn
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I have read every one of Connie Mason's books, and I have to say, this isn't one of her better ones. Her books were always easy to read and understand, even the Medieval stories, but, this was a difficult read. For starters, I have never been able to get through a book where the author writes the dialogue in a Scottish or Irish accent. When I read, "I ken," I have to tell myself, it means, "I know." "I dinna," means, "I do not." "I canna," means, "I cannot." And, if anyone from Scotland, or, Ireland reads this review, I meant no insult by that statement. I just mean that I have to mentally translate the dialogue into English, in order to understand it. Second, the book seems like it was written mostly by Connie Mason's writing partner, Mia Marlowe. This book just didn't have the can't-put-down excitment of Connie's previous books. Third, she wrote a lot of Western and Indian romances which I always enjoyed, but, she stopped writing them in 2001, and, started writing Medieval and Renaissance stories. I e-mailed her through her website, asking if she was going to write another Western, but, she never responded. Now, I hear her next book is going to be about a British knight in 19th century England. I'm not sure if I'll be reading it, but, if I do, I hope it's better than this one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fizzled January 7, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
As Elspeth Stewart walks down the aisle to meet her bridegroom, a dark-haired stranger bursts through the chapel doors on his black stallion, scooping her into his arms, and carrying her off across the wild Scottish highlands. She does all she can to try to escape or help her father and bridegroom find her until she realizes that her kidnapper, Laird Robin MacLaren, is the man she has seen with her gift of Sight. Robin only has revenge on his mind against his enemy when he steals Elspeth away. Several years ago, Elspeth's bridegroom had kidnapped Robin's wife of 2 weeks, raped and tortured her, until she took her own life. Now as they come to know each other and understand just what is at stake, they have shaky ground to cover as two clans come against them.

Right away I was captivated by this story about this man driven mad with grief who charged into a church astride a black horse to scoop of the bride. We see right away the bridegroom has no concern for his bride as he shoots arrows regardless if they hit her or not, he is only furious at the insult to his name and pride. Rob and Elspeth's first few nights on the road were agonizing as Rob tries to evade capture and Elspeth uses her clothes to leave a trail. Everything is moving along, and I'm gripping my e-reader tightly as I'm eager to find out what happens next. Then it all fizzles.

After 2 days on the road, Rob and Elspeth make a stop. Elspeth is taking a sponge bath in the upstairs room. Rob sneaks up on her and watches her wipe and clean her nakedness. Then, all the sudden, they are in love. I couldn't feel the transition and it all felt like "ooh, you saw my naked boobies and now I love you." Because of this awkward change in feelings, I couldn't really buy into the rest of the book, which is based strongly on their love for one another.

Elspeth has the gift of Sight, which I would have liked to have seen better developed. She shares with Rob her first "vision", which turns out to be about Rob as a young child. He never tells her this, though. They never share.

I did really liked how the story progressed, even if I couldn't buy into their love. Even though this story was a Highland Romance with a kidnapped bride, it didn't seem to follow any of the typical story lines usually associated with the type (well, except for the "lust is now love" type thing.) I really liked how the story evolved and twisted and how the problems were resolved.
