Book Description

Living forever is hard, but loving forever? That’s damn near impossible.

Children of Night, Book 2

1856, New York City. Moments after Conrad Quintano drives his life-mate away, heartache and guilt descend around his heart like a pall. Convinced that Damian’s hatred is as permanent as the scars Conrad has inflicted on him, Conrad steels himself for an eternity of emotional torture.

Present day, San Francisco. For the sake of vampire twins Marc and Julie Fischer, Conrad and Damian present a united parental front. In reality, their truce is a sham. Conrad, weakened by his recent ordeal, struggles against the urge to bring his mate back to his bed. And Damian misinterprets Conrad’s explosive temper as proof their relationship is irreparably broken.

When an old enemy’s quest to create a dangerous new breed of vampire threatens the twins’ lives—and the precarious state of vampire peace—it’s imperative the estranged lovers put the past behind them. Or the shadows of the past will tear apart everything they hold dear.

Warning: This book may not be suitable for readers with an aversion to emotionally damaged vampire heroes. Caution is advised if you have experienced prior sensitivity to any of the following: costume parties, fencing lessons, interspecies, inter-generational or intra-gender dating, occasional mild violence, and/or recreational blood-drinking.

“In the Dark went far beyond my expectations… Forte brilliantly blends past and present, capturing the mood of both the sixties and the current time frame.”

“…a love story in its own right…a very interesting experience.”

-- Long and Short Reviews on In the Dark
“…even better than I could have anticipated…takes the reader into a past time so convincingly that the present is lost. The characters are incredibly well written and their emotions drive the story in a haunting way…enchanting and unique …”

5.0 out of 5 stars Rated PG...Forte, that is! September 24, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
How can love survive when it is ignored and neglected? And how can two intelligent men be such `drama queens'? Conrad knows he treated Damian abominably, and lives each day realizing what he's lost. Conrad doesn't blame his love for turning from him and hating the sight of him. He has punished himself for centuries for what he did to Damian, knowing there can be no forgiveness for his actions. Damian has suffered for all that time, wondering what he can do to gain Conrad's love once more, for he has never stopped loving him, no matter how painful it has been. What starts as a training exercise between Julie and Damian becomes the catalyst to reunite Conrad and Damian, after centuries apart. When old enemies rise up once more to try and topple Conrad from his position of power, the danger becomes all too real, and one of the twins pays the price.

This is the second book in PG Forte's Children of the Night series, and it is a marvelous story of love lost and found through pain and denial. I love Ms. Forte's use of flashbacks to show how Conrad and Damian first met, and at different points throughout their long lives together. This is a dark and emotional story, and I admit to shedding more than a few tears in some places. But the characters are compelling, and once I started, I couldn't put it down.

Conrad is still weak from the events of In the Dark, Ms Forte's first book of this series. He tortures himself with memories of what he had with Damian, and how he ruined any happiness they had together. I found it ironic that one of the strongest vampires was so completely unaware of how his soul mate truly felt. There were times I just wanted to shake him like a child and say, "Open your eyes, fool. See what is right there in front of you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Conrad and Damian *sigh* 'Nuff said! March 23, 2013

Children of Night 2

It has been one hundred and fifty years since Conrad attacked and drove away his soul mate Damian, but he still feels the guilt and regret as if it were only yesterday. When the world's first vampire twins, Marc and Julie, were born forty years ago, it was Damian whom Conrad trusted and looked to for help with their secret existence. Pretending to be a couple again, Conrad and Damian retreated from their world so they could raise the twins in secret, living as anything but a couple. Day in, day out, Conrad exists with Damian but without his love, never realizing Damian feels the same. Will Conrad forever let his old sins blind him to the love right in front of him, or will he finally realize that love, not loyalty, is the reason Damian stays?

Damian will forever bear the scars Conrad inflicted on him a century and a half ago, but those scars are not the source of his pain. His pain comes from loving Conrad, but Conrad's constant outbursts are proof to Damian that he has eternally lost his love. Still, Damian is always there for Conrad; coming when help is needed to raise Marc and Julie. What Damian doesn't know is that it is Conrad's guilt that causes his temper and that guilt is driven by the fact that Conrad still loves him as madly as he ever did. Whoever said wisdom comes with age, clearly didn't know these two.

PG Forte is a master storyteller! Old Sins, Long Shadows was a seductively brilliant story that took me on a ride through every emotion I possessed and left me with a complete inability to put it down. Conrad and Damian ran my heart through the wringer and had me desperate for a resolution between them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully Surprising! October 16, 2012
By M Sue
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Wonderfully surprising! Those along with many others came to mind when I'd finished this book. This story hit the mark for me on so many levels. Why surprising? Because I've never read a m/m story but the blurb pulled me in with the promise of strong emotion and a bit of mystery.

Conrad and Damian are the epitome of wounded and tortured heroes. Each so very full of strength, compassion, and love, yet they are flawed and full of remorse. This holds true for a few of the other key players in the story as well. But my favorites in the book were Conrad and Damian (as well they should be as the heroes). As a reader, I was literally pulled into their emotional turmoil. Sucked along for the ride. When the blurb promises emotionally damaged vampire heroes, trust me when I tell you the author delivered.

Now, seeing as I picked this book up without having read the first one, I was not at all lost in reading this book. It was very easy to follow along. Ms. Forte does an excellent job of giving you just enough to enjoy the read, but leaving enough out to make me want to go back and read the first book. And I most definitely will. Stepping out of my comfort zone and reading something new with P.G. Forte spinning the tale was well worth the journey and one I hope to repeat with this author soon.

More About the Author

Love without Limits, Romance without Rules! Life's more fun when you play outside the lines.

I wrote my first serialized story when I was still in my teens. The sexy, adventure tales were very popular at my oh-so-proper, all girls, Catholic High School, where they helped to liven up otherwise dull classes.

Even if my teachers didn't always think so.

A lot of years have passed since then, but I'm still at it, penning novels and novellas in the romantic suspense, psychic fiction and erotic romance and paranormal genres.

Originally a Jersey Girl, I currently reside on the Extreme Left Coast. When I'm not pestering my husband for his help in researching scenes for my books, or being entertained by my two vastly amusing adult children, I can be found serving the needs and whims of either my characters or my cats.

It's a thankless job, but someone's gotta do it.
