exciting fantasy thriller,
This review is from: Sins Of The Night (Paperback)
A century ago Adrien Roth was proud to be a Shadow Stalker who destroyed the Kynn. However, he failed at his task when he was captured by his enemy. They tortured him and he became one of them, a vampire who used sex with mortals as sustenance.
Loathing himself he plans to destroy Kynn chieftain Devon Carnavorn and the vampire's new wife Rachel in what the former Shadow Stalker knows is probably a suicide mission. However, as he begins his quest, Adrien meets human Cassie Wilson, who somehow reinvigorates the soul he thought the Kynn killed when they brutalized and changed him. As they fall in love, he wants to come out of her shadows into the light of her warmth, but obstinately refuses to give up his quest for vengeance as he targets the Mystique Goth nightclub in Warren, California. This exciting fantasy thriller returns the lead characters of SINS OF THE DEVIL, but this time they are the objectives of the lead male who sees them as his revenge and redemption. The story line is character driven as Adrien, already feeling somewhat schizoid between his former occupation and his current status, struggles with the thirst for bloody vengeance and love. Although some of the erotic scenes will turn off some readers especially when violent force is applied to a disinclined individual who says no. Devyn Quinn provides an interesting erotic vampire romantic suspense as fans will wonder whether Devon chooses Cassie or suicide. Harriet Klausner

Dark Thrilling Conclusion to the "Kynn" Stories,
By LeaF (Toronto, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sins Of The Night (Paperback)
As a short review, the Kynn are a vampire species who not only require human blood to continue existing, they require sexual energy to reinvigorate their bodies. They are not fanged vampires, they use a blade or some type of sharp instrument to cut their donors to feed prior to sex. The `Kynn' have developed a society within the occult world and have learned to peacefully coexist with humanity. They do not murder their donors and leave devastation in their wake. In fact, the Kynn use a willing group of humans who provide for them. They do however have enemies in the `Amhais', who are vampire hunters and Devon Carnavorn lost his first great love and maker `Ariel' at their hands a century previous to his story in "Sins of the Flesh".
Sins of the Night In 1906, Adrien Roth believed he was soon to be a dead man. Shackled to a bed, weak from hunger and thirst, he was fearful not of death but what may come next. Enter, Devon Carnavorn full of hatred toward the Amhais that killed his beloved Ariel. He plans not to execute Roth, but to teach him a lesson he will never, ever forget. Devon has enlisted Ariel's sister Lilith, a depraved bloodthirsty creature, who has been "having her way" with Adrien for days. What is different on this night is that Adrien, a once proud member of the Amhais is turned into what he hates, Kynn, against his will. Fast forward to present day, Adrien lives a meager existence, renting a ramshackle but clean house where he stays with his cat "Gisele" (Gizzy). He rides a broken down Harley motorcycle and does not care about `material' things. Adrien has no room for a lover in his life. His plan for vengeance is what keeps him focused on a singular path to Devon Carnavorn, the `creature' that captured and left him in the hands of Lilith who subjected him to 30 years of terror. As a reader, I felt quite sorry for Adrien at the beginning of the book, he was a very lonely, isolated soul who absolutely hated what he was. That is until he intervenes to rescue "damsel in severe distress", Cassie Wilson during the wee hours of the morning in a isolated park where she is being brutalized by her soon to be ex-boyfriend. Cassie is an extremely wealthy beautiful woman from old money who lives alone in a mansion on a hill. She has been married five times and taken advantage of because of her wealth. She also has a dark secret, which she shares with no one. I really liked Cassie, she is brassy, speaks her mind and very comfortable with her own sexuality. Inexplicably drawn to Adrien, she tracks him down after her `rescue' and ingratiates herself into his life. Their sexual attraction is instantaneous and explosive. Despite his resolve not to let anyone into his life or heart, Adrien cannot deny her. There is a m/m/f ménage scene integrated in the storyline involving Adrien, but it is part of a dream sequence and is extremely well written. Meanwhile Devon is now married to Rachel, his love and `she-shay' or soul mate. Rachel is in the final months of pregnancy with twins and she is unwell. The Kynn have never been able to conceive children until Rachel and Devon and the reason for the decline in her health is a mystery to their physicians. Devon is distraught with worry for her and their children. Then an unusual, grotesque gift arrives for Rachel sent by Adrien. Devon recognizes it as a direct threat against him and his family. Following the delivery of the `gift' he, receives delivery of a series of letters written by Adrien chronicling his years of torture at the hands of Lilith. Devon realizes in his anger and grief at the loss of Ariel, he made a grave error in leaving Adrien in the hands of Lilith. He is now entangled in a twisted web. It is against Kynn law to turn a human against his or her will. The punishment is death. Following the receipt of Adrien's "gifts" Devon enlists the help of mercenary/assassin Morgan Saint-Evanston, an otherworldly creature, of millennia in age who can move between the veils of dimensions and track human or occult beings through a `psychic imprint'. I loved Morgan, he is cocky as hell, brilliant, mysterious and he possesses a dark wit that had me hooting with laughter. Then there is his magnificent lover, "Julienne". Just, wow.... Devyn Quinn wrote a fabulous plot line for Morgan, the entire story circles him IMHO. He manipulates two strong heroines in what is quite a startling climax to the story of not one but two heroes bent on each other's destruction. Morgan also has the gift of prophesy and there is a surprising tidbit of information shared with Rachel with respect to her future and her twin pregnancy. However, the actual outcome of this, I think is left up to the mind of the reader. "Sins of the Night", is a thrilling conclusion to the Kynn stories. I would suggest reading "Sins of the Flesh", prior this book as the two stories are linked very closely together. I have pre-ordered Ms. Quinn's March 2009 publications. Truly, I am addicted to Ms. Quinn's books.

Sins of the Night,
This review is from: Sins Of The Night (Paperback)
Adrien Roth wants vengeance. He wants compensation. He wants Devon Carnavorn and his family annihilated from the face of this Earth. And he is the vampire to do such a foul deed, after all, Devon is the reason he is now a Kinn instead of a Shadow Stalker. A century ago, Adrien was caught and imprisoned by Devon and his lover and turned against his will. Nothing and no one is going to stop his revenge and his revenge is so near he can taste it, until he comes face to face with a mortal named Cassie Wilson. Cassie gives Adrien a new outlook on life and makes him question his quest for Devon's demise.
Cassie Wilson is rich and beautiful, just not lucky in love. When her latest boyfriend roughs her up when she refuses him a loan, her rescuer comes in the form of Adrien Roth. Adrien is sinfully handsome and in Cassie's mind, drool worthy. She isn't looking for forever, that isn't going to happen - the doctors have told her so. But she is looking for right now and strives to bend Adrien to her will. Her hard work pays off and their passion knows no bounds. When the smoke clears, Cassie and Adrien find themselves in a predicament. It seems that the man who never wanted past one night now wants forever; the one thing Cassie is unable to give him. Or is she? The warning on the back of Sins of the Night states, "WARNING! This is a really hot book." They weren't lying. Adrien Roth was sensual enough that even I wanted to be his lover. I understood his need for revenge but I also wanted him to have a mate that loved him and that mate was Cassie, no matter that she was a human. Life had dealt both of these characters a hand of cards that they weren't all that thrilled to have but I like how each took charge and lived each and every moment. Sins of the Night is the second book of the Kith & Kinn series and is connected to Sins of the Flesh. I haven't read Sins of the Flesh yet but this did not matter in the least. I was able to enjoy Sins of the Night completely. Sins of the Night was erotic, dark, and captivating. I didn't put it down and Devyn Quinn is now on my author radar! I am never disappointed with a Quinn book. First off, before reading this book, one should read Sins of the Flesh. One reason being, Sins of the Night melds largely with Sings of the Flesh. You will not understand the torture that Devon went through when Adrian Roth, a Shadow Stalker, killed Devon's earlier love of his life, Ariel, and to which Devon then takes revenge on Adrian Roth which Devyn Quinn brings into Sins of the Night. For Adrian Roth killing Devon's love, Ariel, Devon has her sister, Lilith, turn Adrian Roth to become the very thing that Adrian hunted, hated and thought evil. Unfortunately, Lilith went a little further than Devon wanted and tortured Adrian for many years. Now Adrian wants revenge. Not only does Quinn pull in the love romance between Devon and Rachel from Sins of the Flesh and combines the story with Adrian Roth who meets Cassie, who, through her gentleness, slowly turns Adrian's obsession to destroy Devon and Rachel and her unborn child, into feeling perhaps there is a life to be had and that he could find happiness through Cassie, but Quinn also brings in another hunk named Morgan who brings death and Devon wants Morgan to kill Adrian Roth before he kills Devon's wife and their unborn child. There is never a dull moment because of the three heroes of Devon, Morgan and Adrian. Hopefully, one day Quinn will write a book on Morgan! Once again, Quinn's book is hot, hot, hot. No "light" reading here.

What a no brainer......,

Is J R Ward the only author of vampire genre that knows how to grab your attention and keep you screaming for more!? I had read such good reviews about Devyn Quinn and was looking forward to both Sins of the Flesh and Sins of the Night. This book is not story driven or character driven, there's nothing for the reader to become invested in, page after page, of nothing. The characters are poorly developed and the story has no imagination or heated anticipation throughout the book. Even the sex was flat. Make no mistake. This book will not come close to satisifying true addicts of Vampire Eroticism/Romance!
