They're no myth, they're pretty bloody good!,

US Prog duo with guests, with some great Italian vocals by Alberto Piras(Deus Ex Machina). Masterfully mastered by the ledgendary Bob Katz. I hate to do comparisons especially with such a fresh contemporary prog outfit, but...imagine PFM, Ozric Tentacles, Gordian Knot and King Crimson all rolled together. That's somewhere close to A Triggering Myth. Exceptional!!

The fourth album from the progressive jazz group A Triggering Myth is "The Sins of Our Saviours". This album brings a new aspect to the group, in the form of vocals on three of the tracks. What is not new is the use of guest musicians on their albums to supplement their sound. The group members are Tim Drumheller (keyboards, percussion, production), and Rick Eddy (keyboards, guitars, percussion).
The guests include Moe Vfushateel (drums, percussion) who has worked with ATM before, and Alessandro Bonetti (violin) and Alberto Piras (vocals) from Deus Ex Machina. The use of vocals on three tracks gives a completely new sound to the group, while the non-vocal tracks are more typical of the pieces on their other albums. However, even there, the group continues to grow and experiment. "His Maddening Certainty" is an excellent piece, and of the vocal pieces "Bagliore (Glimmer)" is the one that I thought was the most interesting. Once again the group has continued to change and experiment with different sounds and techniques. As with their other albums, it can be difficult to find copies of this one. If you enjoy progressive music, which is a blend of jazz, classical, and other progressive styles then this is probably a group which you would enjoy.

Well this work, after continued listening, is resembling the jazz progressive style of Area's "Caution radiation area", where free jazz meets symphonic prog. Moreover you find the vocals of Alberto Piras from Deus ex Machina, this singer contributing to make it resemble to some Area's stuff once more!!The pyrotechnical vocal performances remind us of the amazing work by Demetrio Stratos (this incredible and unforgettable singer, the greatest in my opinion, can not be emulated anyway!!). Besides there are interesting spare parts at the violin, played by another D.E.M. (Alessandro Bonetti), which make appreciate this modern prog stuff once again... Highly recommended !! |
