From the Back Cover

A detective with a secret...
When homicide detective Alexandra Jarvis sees a photo of Seth Benjamin on a police bulletin, she knows that Heaven's plan to halt Armageddon has gone terribly wrong. As the only mortal who knows of Seth's true nature, she's also the only one who can save him.

An exiled angel turned assassin...
Aramael was a hunter of Fallen Angels until a traitor forced him into earthly exile. Now, with no powers and only a faint memory of Alex, his mortal soulmate, he will stop at nothing to redeem himself--even if it means destroying Seth in the name of the Creator.

A world with little chance of redemption...
As Alex's need to protect Seth sets her on a collision course with the determined Aramael, the conflict between them may push the world over the edge--and into the very chaos they're trying to prevent.

About the Author

In her spare time Linda Poitevin gardens (organically), cans, freezes the family’s winter fruit and vegetable supply, knits (basically), crochets (better), and starts way more projects than she ever finishes. Fortunately, that doesn’t hold true for her books. She loves spending time with her family, having coffee with friends, walking by the river, and watching thunderstorms…in about that order.

"Sins of the Son" by Linda Poitevin is part of `The Grigori Legacy' series, picking up where "Sins of the Angels" left off. Detective Alexandra Jarvis is struggling to recover from the aftermath of her association with Aramael and her exposure to the struggles between `The One' and Lucifer as they are played out using the angels and the fallen ones. A radical gamble results in Seth, son of `The One' and Lucifer, arriving on Earth as a mortal adult with aphasia yet holding the fate of mankind in his hands. The Archangel Mika'el is recalled from his centuries-long exile to resume leadership and see that the struggle goes in favor of the One but the nefarious plans to produce additional Nephilim as well as the machinations of the One herself make him face a horrendous decision. Detective Hugh Henderson works with psychiatrist Dr. Elizabeth Riley in Vancouver to try to find out what's behind the mysterious pregnancies that are accompanied by unbelievable tales. He is reluctant to believe the facts that he is being presented with but gradually realizes that his background makes him better able to connect the clues being presented than most other people. He is reluctant to accept the information that Alexandra gradually unveils but has no choice once he meets those she is working with. Once again, Alexandra stands at a crossroads that may result in Armageddon and her heart and strength will be tested as she faces an impossible choice.

A dramatic and wrenching addition to the series that gives a different twist on the struggle between good and evil. An intriguing concept that gives a view of fallen angels and the hierarchy of heaven as they are torn between their wants and their needs to defend mankind. There are horrendous and earth-shattering events which occur in this volume of the series which continue to make the question of love and soulmates a terrible burden upon a fragile mortal soul.

Sins of the Son is the second novel in The Grigori Legacy series. Even though it is the second book, it still works as a standalone title. I say this not having read the first book, Sins of The Angel. Don't get me wrong, Sins of the Son does refer back to incidents that happened in the first book, however it was written in such a way that it didn't make me feel as if I NEEDED the first book to figure out what was going on (although I would enjoy reading the first book if only to find out more about what brought the characters to their current circumstances).

I also love the detail Poitevin went into with her characters and the world in which they lived. I didn't always agree with the decisions her characters made, yet I still could understand why they made them, since the author gave me that much insight into their minds. Then there's the world itself. She really brings it to life. I've never been to Canada, so I can't confirm if her descriptions were spot on, but they definitely felt real enough to me.

As for the rest of the story itself. There is a love triangle between Aramael, Seth and Alex. However, the story was never just about them. Which I think was one of the things that really kept my attention and made the book stand out more than your average romance. Don't get me wrong, the relationship between all three of the main characters is important to the story itself, but it's not the only thing going on. I definitely think this is a plus, since love triangles are one of my pet peeves.

The author also throws in some interesting twists to her story, and not always what I was expecting.

Despite wanting to stay far away from all of the Angel business, Alex finds herself dragged back into the thick of things when she finds out that the plan to stop Armageddon is in shambles. Seth was that plan, until he lost all memory, greatly endangering humanity. She rushes to save him so he can save the rest of the world, but there is more going on than meets the eye. Her soulmate Aramael, who she thought dead, is on his own mission, only his ends in taking Seth's life, and triggering the War between Angels and Fallen.

Sins of the Son dove a lot further into the mythology behind the Angels than the previous installment, which really was great for me because that was my favorite aspect of the series. So much was revealed, and it was great to get the insight into how things came to be the way they are between the Fallen and the Angels. I also really enjoyed seeing Lucifer's perspective. Previously I had thought him to only be a force for evil and that his betrayal of The One was absolute, but I was wrong. Trust me, even after seeing his perspective, I still think he is quite bad considering his hatred of humanity. However, I don't think his betrayal of The One was absolute, and it seems like he would give almost anything to be back with her. It just somehow makes him seem a little less nasty.

While reading Sins of the Son, a certain part really stuck out to me. When The One (Creator) is asked why she continues to love Lucifer despite everything he has done and chooses him over the rest, The One responds: "It is not in my nature - not in my capacity - to favor any one life over another, every living thing in this universe is a part of me, created from me. Who I am, what I am, demands I love them all.
