5.0 out of 5 stars Any reggae collection is crippled without Sinsemilla
The dynamic trio are at it again with this one. Sinsemilla captures Rose, Simpson and Jones in a meditative but poignant stance. Musically supported by some of the best musicians in the industry, Black Uhuru performs at their best with such a profound focus. The dynamic trio are at it again with this one. Sinsemilla captures Rose, Simpson and Jones in a meditative but poignant stance. Musically supported by some of the best musicians in the industry, Black Uhuru performs at their best with such a profound focus. Rose's prophetic lyrics are nutured by the backing vocals of Simpson and Puma. Sinsemilla is a song many artists wish they could do but for some reason or another are too afraid to entertain this subject. Rose is just direct and captivating, providing a pathway for Simpson and Jones to follow while incorporating their unique artistic talents. The Whole World is Africa is a tune that will have its greatest impact in future years once people stop to listen and realize what UHURU is all about. Again, uncompromising lyrics drenched with trend-setting dubs makes this cd a must for any fan of conscious rasta roots...Terrell.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sinsemilla, known, yet still underrated., June 2, 2001
This review is from: Sinsemilla (Audio CD)
Greetings all Black Uhuru fans,

I and I have been a fan of the Uhuru ever since, and am a fan of the one and only Michael Rose.

It's unfortunate that the site doesn't have a sample of my favorite song from this here album, "Vampire."

It's that song that pins the whole album down, the foundation, it's a great closer to the album.

Michael Rose sounds battered but not beaten on the tracks, much like the phoenix rising from the ashes, he still has much fight in him, the most perfectly dramatic song I've heard in my life.

You can feel his sense of anticipation and struggle. Great album from beginning to end, no filler here.

But this album is only the start, all their albums with the trio of Duckie, Puma and Michael are worthy of being in any reggae collection.

one love.

5.0 out of 5 stars a classic, September 18, 2000

the third Black Uhuru lineup of Simpson/Rose/Jones presented the world with "Sinsemilla" in 1980, and it became an instant classic.

Combining Rose's amazing lead vocals with the beautiful harmonies of Simpson and Jones, and adding to it the incredibly funky drums and bass of the legendary Sly and Robbie, the album is a tight tour de funk.

With standout tracks like "World Is Africa," "Happiness," "Endurance," and the title track, there is no way you can listen to this album and not be entranced by it.

While "Red" is in many ways their best effort, "Sinsemilla" is no slouch at all. Both lps should be in any reputable reggae collection, so add them to yours.
