Seems the valves on many toilets shut off very quickly causing water hammer.

After reading about water hammer solutions, I chose to try this arrestor because it installed easily and close to the problem valve on my toilet. Seems the valves on many toilets shut off very quickly causing water hammer. It was very easy to install right under the supply to the toilet tank using an adjustable wrench. Just shut off the supply valve undo the line to the tank, screw the arrestor on the tank and hook the supply line back up to the arrestor. Took about 15 minutes including clean up of a bit of water that dripped out. Works like a charm and went from a jarring boom to a "dink". Worked for me as an easy fix and probably worth a try for you too.

Prior to installation, I had a very severe water hammer at one toilet when it was filling. This product certainly dampened out a lot of the severity of the hammering, but didn't get rid of it completely. It's a good product.

The product arrived as advertised and the installation was ridiculously simple. Unfortunately it had no effect on the water hammer problem I have when the toilet flushes. I don't know enough about plumbing to know if it's an issue with this product or some wacky configuration of pipes in my house, but I can say that this device didn't solve my problem.

Before installing this device, I had reduced the flow rate to eliminate as much of the water hammer effect as possible. I still had a loud 'dink' but at least it could not be heard at the other end of the house. Adding this device did eliminate this dink. Now, all is quiet whenever the toilet is flushed. My recommendation is to lower the water flow to an acceptable refill rate and install this arrestor to solve the water hammer problem.

I purchased this to stop a water hammer problem with a toilet that shuts off too fast. Very easy to install. Installed, flushed....no more water hammer. Not sure why others had a problem.

I bought two of these. They were simple to install and the best part is that they work! We had two toilets that would cause the pipes in the wall to rattle and now we have silence.

UPDATE: Well it's been a year and the water hammer is back. No prob... just turn off the water to the toilet and unscrew the hose from the arrestor. I heard a small thud which is air filling the air chamber. Screw the hose back in and turn on the water. Bingo! water hammer gone again. From what I researched this is something that needs to be done periodically. I'm cool with it. Read below for old post, this product still earns five stars in my book.

We've been having water hammer in our house for months every time we flushed the toilet. Then I started researching the loud noise and noticed that it really needs to be taken care of since it can damage pipes and joints. This product is definitely the solution. It took about 3 seconds to install and you can definitely put it right on the toilet and have it hidden right behind the tank. So you will never even notice it again. It can be pointed up, down, sideways, whatever. Mine has the stub sticking out parallel to the ground and is pointed behind the tank so it is totally out of sight. All you do is turn off the water to the toilet, flush, flush again to get all the water out of the tank, unscrew the flexible water line to the toilet, screw the arrestor onto the toilet, screw the hose onto the arrestor, turn back on the water, and bingo no more water hammer.

It is strange that newer houses do not come with this pre-installed, but then again our house was built by a "reputable" company which seems like they cut corners whenever they could to keep costs down. Our house was built in 2006 so don't think just because you have a new house you have arrestors pre-installed. You might not. Like me!

have water knocks due to toilet valve shutoff? this is the answer!
In some cases if the rubber valves in the toilet tank assemblies seem to be failing and your water pressure is 50-59psi, this would probably be a good idea anyway as many valves use simple thin rubber flow valves that do not react well to pressure spikes.

real easy to install (especially if you have braided flex burst resistant connector, if not, go get one).
