See ya, Fleas!!!!,
By Netsirk (Manhattan Beach, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Siphotrol Plus Fogger 6 oz (Misc.)
We ordered Siphotrol on 8/18 and it was at our door 8/20 in the am! Applied the product to our cat tree and checked it a few hours later. I did see one flea jumping around, did one more treatment and haven't seen a flea since. Prior to the treatment, there would be a handful of fleas in eye's view jumping all around, plus more hiding. A slight, yet sort of pleasant smell, NO residue at all (which I was worried about). So excited to find this and can't say enough about the timely shipping & price from Entirely Pets.

I have tried all the "over the counter" and cheaper products over the years but I always come back to this because it takes care of any flea infestation the first time, everytime!! Just follow the instructions. For any places the "fogger" will not reach I use "Ovitrol Plus Flea, Tick & Bot Spray 16oz Trigger Sp" along with the fogger.

I used to work at an emergency animal hospital and we used this stuff all the time to keep the hospital free of fleas etc.
I bought it for my apartment when I first moved in as a preventitive. Great product!

I had a flea infestation this year and thought I would try this fogger. I followed the instructions to the letter and even made sure I had more than enough foggers to cover the square footage in my townhouse. However, the results were less than satisfactory. Apparently, it killed the fleas but not the eggs. Within a week, I had more fleas (a lot more).
Considering the amount of prep that needs to be done before fogging and the cleanup afterward, I have concluded that it isn't worth the effort.

The difference between this fogger and the store bought brands is the "birth control" part of it. You may still see fleas after using it, but my understanding is that it prevents new fleas from hatching. Sometimes it takes a little while to get the full effect. Like the other review, I bomb with this, then treat places the fog can't reach. I don't have time to spray everything piece by piece with the premise spray, which is also MORE expensive.

I have had an endless flea problem until now. I tried everything. I was trying to hold off on fogging for the last resort and I finally got there, and wish I would have done it sooner. I had fleas in my apartment for about 9 months, and they just got worse and worse. So when I used this I left it in my apartment for an entire night(it says at least 2 hours)to make sure it really killed everything. I went back in the morning and wiped all the surfaces down to remove any residue but amazingly there was very little(really only a little on the counter where I set up the canister). I opened one window and my front door to air it our for an hour like it says, but It didn't even leave a bad smell. It's been 2 weeks and so far no fleas have been seen!

We had no idea we had fleas in our house until my boyfriend started to get all these random bites on his body. By that time, the amount of fleas escalated to an all out take-over. We went to Petsmart and Walmart several different occasions and bought a 3 pack of Raid foggers, BioSpot flea shampoo, generic flea collar, a generic brand of flea drops that you put on your pet's neck, and when that didn't work we bought the Advantage flea drops....which also failed horribly.
For about 3 months we tried and depleted all these products, yet every night my poor boyfriend would get attacked with new flea bites. After doing some thorough research on Amazon, I ran into this product. Based on the reviews I decided to try it, so I bought 4 of the Siphotrol Foggers, a Vet-Kem flea collar, a Vet-Kem Ovitrol Flea Shampoo, and even bought a Victor M230 Flea Trap (which I never even got to try, because by that time our fleas "magically" disappeared) I used 2 cans of the fogger. After one application, we didn't have fleas for a couple of weeks...but then my boyfriend ended up getting another bite so we decided to fog again. (Flea cycles are horrendous!) After that last fog, we haven't seen a flea since. The shampoo seems to work really well too. At least the fleas aren't jumping around on her during the bath like they did with the other one. I'm not too sure if the collar works too well, because I see her scratch every once in awhile, but it smells good at least.

After you fog you should vacuum early and often. You will then temporarily have a population explosion of fleas, because vacuuming causes the eggs to hatch and expose the developing fleas to the chemical. The more you vacuum, the more eggs will hatch. The more eggs that hatch, the more fleas die while the chemical is most active. Therefore, if you are vacuuming your head off and you are seeing more fleas, good for you! It isn't the product failing. It's the product working. Give it time, and make sure that your pets have been treated. They are your second line of defense. If fleas make it to your pet, they die from your pet's flea treatment and if they happen to lay eggs, they won't be viable. Just because your animal doesn't scratch, don't assume they don't have fleas. They can reinfest a room if they aren't treated at the same time that the house is treated.Fleas can jump really really high and they like heat. You can re-infect a treated home from your DVR, TV, cable box, etc.. You won't know they've been there all along, cozy and patient, waiting for a food source to joggle them awake. They can lie dormant for a year. One day your dog will start scratching, and you'll think s/he picked up a flea on their walk. The house will gradually become reinfested, and you'll wonder why your pets are scratching. Get rid of the old cardboard cat scratchers that you might have in every room. The corrugations in the cardboard are perfect receptacles for flea eggs. Consider them flea lunch counters. They are scented with catnip. If you treat them to get rid of the fleas, the cats might not use them anymore, and if they do, they are now digging around in the pesticide that soaked into the cardboard. By all means, get the cats new ones before they move on to the corner of the sofa! Wash your pet's bedding, preferably in hot water, and dry it in a hot dryer. Throw it out if it can't be cleaned. Wicker furniture usually has a board under the seat for additional support. The fleas fall through the wicker, or jump up from the floor, settle on the board, and lay their eggs, which hatch safe up off the floor and the developing and adult fleas hop around till they hit the floor. Treat it. Does this sound like the voice of experience? It should. I also learned a lot from a local pest control company when the fleas returned the first time, such as the thing about vacuuming. What I mainly learned is you can't treat your house by half measures. Your fleas are no different. They will jump high. Plan accordingly. By the way: Diatomateous Earth kicks up dust even when you think that it doesn't. You MUST wear a mask, and goggles are also recommended. You only need a light dusting, but you want to dust the entire house at the same time, move the furniture and get underneath everything, and leave the dust there for several days to several weeks. It clings to the fleas by static electricity. It ONLY kills the bugs on the floor. Plus, the static electricity on a dry day will cause it to adhere to the inside of your electronics. It will stay in the air for days and get up in the ventilation system so that for a month or so the furniture will be covered with a fine coating of d.e. every time the heat or air come on. If you leave the windows open for a few days, you'll minimize the dust problem, but you will still have it. You'll have it again, or exacerbate it, every time you walk into the room until you vacuum. You'll have it as bad as the first time when you vacuum. Wear a mask and eye protection again. You may need a new vacuum cleaner before you finish vacuuming. Keep its filters clean. Ceiling fans will kick up the residue in the carpet as well as throw off any dust that has landed on or clung to its blades, which will happen every time the heat or air come on. Your eyes will sting, your sinuses will sting, your nose will clamp shut and you'll have to breathe through your mouth. Or maybe that was just me. Anyhow, it did kill the fleas on the floor and even cured the yeast infection between my dog's toes. Then it got compacted into the carpet, and very soon the fleas returned from out of my electronics, wicker furniture, cardboard cat scratchers, and untreated cat. It's not something you want to do more than once, and you might want to think twice about doing it that once. |
